Smartphone Addicts
Smartphone Addicts
With the development of modern technology, many new things come into people’ s life and play an increasingly important role, the smartphone is one of which. The popularity of smartphones even brings about a new word “phubber” that is used to describe people who addict themselves to looking at the phones instead of talking to people when being with others. The simple word reflects a serious phenomenon in our current society—more and more people are becoming smartphone addicts.
It is undoubted that smartphones have made our life much easier and better, providing many things we have not experienced before. For example, people can have daily chats with their family members and friends face to face through smartphones even when they are far away from home. They can take bus, go shopping and do other buyings without carrying themselves with heavy coins or the little purse that might be lost easily. They can spend a relaxing and happy time playing phone games to regain energy after a whole day’s study or work. Or they can simply listen to some music or watch a movie to idle away time. There are countless benefits people can get from smartphones, however, if we go beyond the border, it will turn out to be a disaster.
Once people become smartphone addicts, side effects therewith come into being. Those who put in their most time and energy on phones tend to sit or lie down playing for a long time without exercising or eating any food. Day by day, the immune system is influenced and their bodies stop functioning properly, with a result that they become vulnerable to illnesses. To make matters worse, smartphone addicts do not only damage their health physically but also mentally or psychologically. Indulging in the virtual world created by phones, phone nuts exclude themselves from the outside world refusing to associate with people around them. Gradually, they are making themselves isolated islands, which is of no good to their social acceptability. And it is very likely that the chance of contracting autism for these people will be higher than others. Just imagine these horrible consequences being smartphone addicts will cause!
From my perspective, people should be alert to smartphone addiction and make the best of smartphones under the very conditions that they can balance their playing time and normal life, and that they can distinguish the real life from the virtual one.
