The penguin population on the south side of the Hummer ice formation is currently 3, 100 birds. The population on the north side of the Liklo ice formation is currently 2, 100 birds. Marine biologists and zoologists studying the arctic region in which both penguin populations are found agree that if each of these penguin communities maintains its constant annual rate of growth, five years from now they will have the same number of birds, and in subsequent years the Hummer ice formation flock will have fewer members than the Liklo group.
In the table below, identify a rate of increase, in birds per year, for the Hummer ice formation penguin population and a rate of increase, in birds per year, for the Liklo ice formation group that are consistent with the scientists’ projections for each population. Make only one selection in each column.
