Unless the risks of cell phones are shown to outweigh the benefits, we should not restrict their use in moving vehicle, instead we should educate the public about the dangers of driving while phoning and prosecute irresponsible phone users under laws on negligent and reckless driving.
Prohibit the Use of Cell phone While Driving
Nowadays, mobile phone has become a requisite in our life. Undeniably mobile phone has various types of function and brings many benefits to us. But most of the drivers are accustomed to using mobile phone while driving although they know it is risky. This is a risky action and might cause a serious traffic accident. In my opinion, considering the great dangers of using cell phone on the road and the effectiveness of enforcing law to negligent drivers, the use of cell phone while driving ought to be prohibited.
Firstly, talking on your phone serves as a major distraction. You’ re focusing on holding your phone to your ear, listening to the conversation, and managing your car all at once. Some drivers spend much time in talking on the cell phone. As they are talking to the other person about a specific topic, their attention can be diverted. They may fail to take notice of the condition of the road and traffic signs. Thus, they may hit cars which suddenly stops or pedestrians who are going across the street on a zebra crossing when the light turns red. Talking on a cell phone is particularly risky for new drivers who are still unskillful in manipulating a car.
Secondly, writing and sending text messages while on the road is the most dangerous. Texting require a lot of focus. You’ re not talking. You’ re inputting letters and constructing sentences. While texting, your eyes leaves the road to check what you’ re writing. This is exceedingly dangerous, as you could hit an innocent pedestrian, another car, a tree or a building. Therefore, texting while driving poses threat to both others’ lives and drivers themselves.
Thirdly, only if the use of cell phone while driving is prohibited in the way of enacting more strict law on negligent driving, will the number of related car accidents slump. Warning and educating reckless drivers is far less effective than prohibition. What’ s more, reckless drivers should face severer punishment so that they won’ t dare to commit the mistake again.
I disapprove of the idea that unless the risks of cell phones are shown to outweigh the benefits, we should not restrict their use in moving vehicle. The risks of using cell phone while driving are somewhat potential. But if accidents occur, the consequences will be irrevocable. While driving, drivers often use cell phones to talk, send text message. It is suggested that drivers stop their cars on the roadside, then answer their phones and send messages.
