What Makes a Good Parent?

My parents let me make almost every decisions by myself. Sometimes it' s a good thing, but sometimes not. After college entrance examination, I chose which college I was going to go and which major I was going to learn for the next period of my life. Actually, I was lack of life experience and experience on career development. What I chose at that time may be not very proper for my future development. Therefore, I hope they could have given me some advice on my future instead of make me decide all the things by myself. To make a good parent, I think parents should be responsible for their children, respect them and be able to give them some directions of life.

Firstly, I think a good parent needs to be responsible for their children. They need to ensure that their children eat healthy food and get regular rest every day. And parents need to constantly talk with their children to know their mental states and make the child' s mood more stable. Children are influenced by their parents most, therefore, parents need to keep right behaviors and habits.

Besides be responsible for their children, my ideal parent needs to show respect for their children. Respect is not only helpful for the growth of children, but also very important for their future development. When good parents find their children begin to have some secrets, they will not sneak a peek at their diaries. Give your child the freedom to develop. Good parents even ask their children’ s opinion on some major things of the family, such as buying a house. If a child is respected in the family, he will respect his teachers and friends. Some bad habits will be reduced.

The most important point is that good parents should be able to give their children practical suggestions. This is particularly important when their children are facing a most critical decision of their life or at an important turning point. When children feel confused or are confronted with tough problems, parents are supposed to give them proper suggestions. But it does not means that parents must make these decision for their children. A good parent does not force their children to do what they do not want to do, except for eat healthy food and keep regular schedule.

In conclusion, my ideal parent is responsible for children’ s daily life and teach them by his own behaviors. Moreover, a good parent respect children and can give children solid advice on critical decisions.
