Clean Your Plate Campaign

These days, the public initiate a campaign called Clean Your Plate, which aims to advocate saving against wasting. Originally launched on Weibo, this campaign is soon joined by tens of thousands people and restaurants around China.

According to the statistics of a latest survey, more than 50 million tons of food, enough to feed about 200 million people for one year, is squandered in China every year. Thus, the promotion of “finish up your plate” is sure to heighten public awareness and contribute significantly to grain conservation. Moreover, it, in a sense, highlights the importance of maintaining Chinese traditional virtue of being thrifty even in times of plenty.

On my personal level, this campaign should be moved on. Saving food for our offspring is everybody's responsibility and each individual is bound to participate. The government has an obligation to introduce laws and regulations against food wastage while citizens should put an end to excessively expensive feasts and banquets.
