Some children go to school on foot in Munich, Germany.
In Alaska, USA, it snows a lot. Some kids go to school by sled. It’s fast.
Some children in Jiangxi, China, go to school by ferry every day.
In Papa Westray, Scotland, the children go to school by ferry, too. But in 2009, they went to school by plane because the ferry didn’t work.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Warming-up
1. Greetings. Talk about the weather.
2. Sing a song with students together.
I went to school one morning and I walked like this,
Walked like this, walked like this.
I went to school one morning and I walked like this,
All on my way to school.
Ask them if they can figure out the way I went to school in this song, and they may say “walk”. Invite two students to talk about their ways to go to school everyday. Then tell them that today we are going to learn more different ways to go to school.
Step 2: Pre-reading
Show some pictures according to the new words and describe them simply, and then teacher shows and explains the words to the students and reads them.
Step 3:While-reading
1. Global reading
Ask students to open books and read the whole passage quickly. They need to find the main idea and summarize it into one sentence. 3minutes will be given.
2. Detailed reading
Ask students to read again, summarize the ways to go to school in these different places and make a chart. 8 minutes will be given, and then teacher invites one student to write the chart down on the blackboard.
Step4: Post-reading
Ask students to make an interview with their desk mates to talk about different ways to go to school. One plays as the Interviewer, and the other plays as the Interviewee. They can also try to make new dialogues by describing their own ways to go to school. 5 minutes will be given. Then invite 2 pairs to share their dialogues and give encouragement.
Step5: Summary and Homework
Summary: Teacher summarizes the whole class.
Homework: Ask students to tell their parents what they have learned in school today and write a few sentences down to describe their own ways to go to school.
