Pollution Prevention

When human beings are feeling proud of the advancements we have achieved, we are overlooking a very grave problem, the environmental problem. Pollution is one of the most threatening environmental problems that we are facing as it has a horrific impact on the planet and us human beings. Water pollution, air pollution, acid rain due to air pollution, land pollution, noise pollution, are all adversely affecting the environment and people. Pollution has reached its peak, giving rise to global warming and human illness. Some countries are so polluted that children are born with birth defects, while several others develop such defects later in life, due to their exposure to different types of pollution.

Pollution is first of all a governance problem and government should take measures to control and prevent the pollution from various aspects. Governments need to ask experts to do the professional surveys about the pollution and give out the scientific and feasible plan to solve the problem. Furthermore, the authorities must set up a monitoring system. For instance, the air, water and land quality situation must be checked every month. To end pollution, we need bottom-up approaches. The country providing citizens with access to pollution information will gain the support from the local community and they can thus protect themselves from potential pollution. For individuals, many things can be done to prevent pollution like making sustainable transportation choices, energy choices and promoting a lifestyle of reducing, reusing, and recycling.

Through the cooperation between the government and the individuals, it is likely to address the pollution challenges step by step. Common ground has been reached among the countries and a series of international agreements are going to be signed in order to tackle the environment problems. We all have a responsibility to ensure that we use better practices to reduce air pollution. If we don’t take any action, both our survival and that of our generations is greatly threatened. If each one of us takes necessary steps, we will all be on the way to a cleaner and fresher continent. 

本文按照题目要求分成三个部分展开论述。第一段首先整体说明了我们人类所面临的严峻的环境污染的挑战，其次举例说明环境污染给人类健康和生态环境带来的不利影响。第二段列举了应对环境污染我们应该采取的措施，分为政府层面和民众层面。最后一段展望未来，作者认为通过各个层面的努力，环境污染问题可以得到一步一步的解决。当下国际社会也意识到这个问题，已经或者将要签署各种协定来合作防治污染。只要每个人都提高意识，采取行动，总有一天我们会重返一个干净清新的家园。
