【答案解析】[听力原文] The prehistoric cave paintings in France and Spain are exquisitely preserved. But other prehistoric rock art, located throughout Africa, has been heavily damaged, and in many cases, even lost completely. The main causes to the damage to the African cave paintings are the weather and tourists. The sun, rain and wind have eroded rock carvings and faded the colors of the paintings. Tourists have damaged a lot of the paintings by chipping off pieces to keep for themselves. Amateur photographers have even thrown soft drinks on the paintings to make the colors seem brighter when they photograph them. The need to conserve as many of the paintings as possible is apparent for a number of reasons. One of the chief reasons is the tremendous originality exhibited in the art work. For example, the cave paintings in Europe usually depict only animals; people are seldom depicted. But the rock paintings in Africa usually depict both animals and people. The kind of paint used in some of the African rock art is also unusual. For example, the paint used in France and Spain was mostly made out of ground-up charcoal. But the paint used in some of the African paintings was made out of the blood of animals. Another of the important reasons to preserve African paintings is the information they give us on the culture of certain African peoples. For instance, some of the paintings show ancient healers in the state of trance, dreaming about creatures which have the heads of animals and the bodies of human beings. Other paintings also contain important information on the history of the African continent. For instance, most of us think that the Sahara region of Africa is an almost completely barren desert. But we learn from rock paintings that the Sahara used to be a green land with lots of water. Ancient paintings of the Sahara depict lakes and animals like elephants, which drink a lot of water. So whether it's because of the original art work of the paintings, or for what they've taught us about certain ancient African cultures and history, the need to preserve the paintings is great. One art institute, the Getty Conservation Institute, is responding to this need by donating hundreds of rolls of camera film so that by photographing the paintings they will manage to survive, at least in some form, to be studied by later generations. How do the African rock paintings differ from European rock paintings? 演讲者对比欧洲画和非洲画时提到,欧洲的洞穴壁画通常只描绘动物,而非洲的岩画通常既描绘动物也描绘人。由此可知,答案为A。
