Anti-Corruption Campaign

Since the end of last century, corruption cases have become more frequently exposed to the public. They are more frequently reported by news media. Some high ranking officials embezzle state fund illegally for their private affairs. And some abuse their power for personal gains. What’s more, malpractice, bribery and other corrupt behavior do much harm.

As we all know, corruption is a sensitive and thorn problem. A large amount of anticorruption campaigns have been implemented or are already underway in China. More and more people are becoming conscious of the detrimental consequences brought by corruption.

What indeed it is that corruption brings to us? Above all, it deforms market equilibrium and competition. The society is supposed to be open and fair where markets are available to everyone that we have lots of opportunities to make achievements as long as we make efforts. This is benign competition. But once the authority is controlled by bribery, the market is no longer as fair as it should be. Opportunities then will not be accessible to everyone impartially, but prior to those who bribe the official. Therefore, corruption goes against with the spirit of fair markets and competitions, severely distorting market orders. Corruption presents a dreadful threat to state interests.

Secondly, as it infringes the majority’s rights and interests, corruption can arouse public indignation. If opportunities of someone are looted by others, they must become cynical and resentful to the authority and even to the whole society, which also runs counter to laws and regulations. Corruption cases seriously damage efforts to build a clean and transparent government, undoubtedly spoil people’s enthusiasm and heavily affect social stability.

If let corruption go unchecked, it will undoubtedly be more and more rampant and ultimately become uncontrolled. Fortunately, our government has realized the seriousness of corruption problems. President Xi has carried out a series of solutions to combat corruption resolutely. Since the beginning of year 2010, the hard strike against corrupted government officers, in particular against high-rank officials, have caused quite a stir throughout the country and the whole world.

In the future, the government is supposed to make an greater effort in the battle against corrupt behavior to consolidate the fruits which reform has made. All levels of government should take more effective measures to combat bribery and corruption. And laws which are already in effect must be strictly enforced. Government also should reinforce the momentum of the anticorruption drive and show no mercy to the corrupt officials. Only in this way, corruption will be controlled and the government will be purified.
