(C)

Steve Irwin was a famous reptile specialist (爬行动物专家) from Australia. People knew him as the Crocodile (鳄鱼) Hunter.

Steve’s parents, Bob and Lynn Irwin, owned a reptile park. Steve grew up learning about and handling reptiles. At the age of six, he got his first snake from his father and named it Fred. He caught his first crocodile when he was only nine years old.

Steve began running the Australia Zoo in 1991. He was a herpetologist who studied almost all kinds of reptiles. People called him a reptile expert. All his life he devoted himself to educating people about animals, teaching them to treat dangerous animals with respect. Steve never hurt animals. In fact, he saved many animals that were in danger, especially crocodiles. Steve was an expert snake handler. He always warned others, though, that picking up a snake is very dangerous.

Steve married an American who had visited his zoo. Her name is Terri. Terri helped Steve handle the animals. They have one daughter and she loves animals, too. Steve Irwin died in 2006 while filming a TV show about dangerous animals.
