Beat Generation is a loosely integrated group of young poets and writers that emerged in the United States after World War II. This name was first put forward by the writer Jack Kruyak around 1948. In English, the adjective "beat" has the meaning of "exhaustion" or "collapse", while Kruyak gives it a new meaning of "joy" or "happiness", which is connected with the concept of "beat" in music.
