ask-based language teaching refers to an approach based on the use of task as the core unit of planning and instruction in language. Task-based language teaching is widely promoted in English language teaching nowadays. It is a further development of Communicative Language Teaching. It shares the same beliefs in the use of language in real life, but stresses the importance to combine form-focused teaching with communication-focused teaching.
TBLT is innovative but not necessarily effective in China, particularly for primary and secondary school students. It is adaptable for bettering ELT in China but not importable without any modifications. It is difficult to cover the whole language system and lacks teachers in China who are sufficiently proficient in English to engage easily and comfortable in face-to-face interaction. It can reduce students’ confidence. Without adequate practice of the needed structure, students were reluctant to speak in a so-called meaning-driven communication.
It implies that a TBLT can be conducted through the learner’ s activity. The students enjoyed the interaction and used a range of vocabulary and techniques to perform the different activities. They recognized the importance of the planning stage and devoted more time than expected on this stage. This made them quitted confident to report their work to their fellow students and they could get the pleasant achievement quite often. TBLT is a feasible teaching approach. However, some problems have been occurred in the implementation of Task-based teaching. Such as:
(1) Since Task-based language learning is based on tasks, for the busy teachers in senior high school a “good” task is an extremely difficult thing to design, a “boring” or “unsuccessful” task may appear.
(2) The teacher must know what kind of tasks and how many tasks should be brought into the class to meet different students in different levels. The teacher should settle the class time right and understand each student and take care of each student. As for prevention of such questions emerge, Task-based approach in the implementation process, teachers should pay attention to the design task of the following questions.
