Since the reform and opening-up, Huangmei cross-stitch has been selected as the magnum opus artwork of Hubei Province and China to attend touring exhibitions aboard several times and has been much appreciated by admirers and customers and highly commended by experts and scholars from all walks of life, gaining a reputation of “silent lyrics and three-dimensional Chinese painting. ”

The Chinese Government attaches great importance to the protection of the intangible cultural heritage. In May 20th, 2006, Huangmei cross-stitch was listed among the first batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage approved by the State Council. In June 5th, 2007, Madam Shi Jiumei, from Xinkai town, Huangmei County of Hubei Province, was conferred by National Ministry of Culture the representative successor of Huangmei cross-stitch, and she was listed among the first batch of 226 representative successors to the national intangible cultural heritage projects.

In 2011, with the support of the Party Committee of Xinkai Town, Madam Shi Jiumei started her company, Jiumei Cross- Stitch Handicraft Co. , Ltd. A group of talented youth are well trained through lectures and practice.
