问答题The Book of Changes
问答题The hardest hit of all that week were Wall Street"s specialist firms, the traders who were charged with maintaining orderly markets. That task required them to purchase stocks when there were no other buyers and to make sales when other sellers disappeared. Until the end of that week, a total 52 specialist lb-ms had worked on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange: each had handled the shares of 20 to 30 specified Big Board companies. on Black Monday, the specialists grimly fulfilled their responsibilities, buying millions of shares as prices plunged all around them. Their losses could amount to as much as $ 50 million. Securities firms outside Wall Street also felt mortal pain. The 4,500 accounts of the New York Stock Exchange member were taken over by Rodman & Renshaw, a Chicago firm.

问答题Psychologists once believed that the motive that caused men to strive to attain high-level managerial positions was the "need for achievement". But now they believe it is the "need for power". Power seekers strive hard to reach positions where they can exercise authority over large numbers of people. (46) Individual performers who lack this drive are not likely to advance far up the managerial ladder. They usually scorn company politics and devote their energies to other types of activities. The power game is part of management, and it is played best by those who enjoy it most. (47) One of the least rational acts of business organizations is that of hiring managers who have a high need to exercise authority, and then teaching them that authoritative methods are wrong and that they should be consultative or participative. (48) It is a serious mistake to teach managers that they should adopt styles that are inconsistent with their unique personalities. Yet this is precisely what a large number of business organizations are doing; and it explains, in part, why their management development programs are not effective. (49) What managerial aspirants should be taught is how to exercise their authority in a way that is appropriate to the situation and the people involved. They need to learn that the real source of their power is their own knowledge and skill, and the strength of their own personalities, not the authority conferred on them by their positions. When they lack the knowledge or skill required to perform the work, they need to know how to share their authority. (50) But when they know What has to be done and have the skill and personality to get it done, they must exercise their traditional authority in whatever way is necessary.
问答题When someone asks you to his or her home, it is very clear who is the guest and who is the host, but invitations to restaurants for lunch, dinner, coffee, a drink, etc., sometimes present problems, and the customs vary in different parts of the United States.
In many instances it is the inviter who pays, as one would expect, but in some instances each one pays his or her own check: You "go Dutch." This is often the case with friends in informal situations, such as "Let"s go and get a beer" or "What about a cup of coffee?" In some parts of the country, however, some people like to entertain friends by taking them to a restaurant for dinner instead of having dinner at home. In this case the host expects to pay and the guest may offer to leave the tip, which may be declined by the host. (if so, just let the matter drop.) If the invitation is expressed in fairly casual terms, such as "Let"s go to (name of a restaurant) for dinner," it may be more of a suggestion than an invitation, so you should be prepared to pay your part of the bill.
If you want to invite someone for a meal at a restaurant, be explicit: "I"d like to take you to..." Americans should be explicit also, but they often assume you know the local customs in the matter. Ask a friend"s advice if you are not sure.

问答题Direction: In this section there is a
passage in English. Translate the five sentences underlined into Chinese and
write your translation on ANSWER SHEET 2. The smooth landing of
the shuttle (航天飞机) Discovery ended a flight that was successful in almost every
respect but one: the dislodging of a big chunk of foam, like the one that doomed
the Columbia. This flight was supposed to vault the shuttle fleet back into
space after a prolonged grounding for repairs. But given the repeat of the very
problem that two years of retooling was supposed to resolve, the verdict is
necessarily mixed. (1) {{U}}Once again, the space agency has been forced to put
off the flight until it can find a solution to the problem, and no one seems
willing to guess how long that may take.{{/U}} The discovery
astronauts performed superbly during their two-week mission, and the shuttle
looked better than ever in some respects. (2) {{U}}Space officials were
justifiably happy that so much had gone well, despite daily worries over
possible risks. The flight clearly achieved its prime objectives.{{/U}}
The astronauts transferred tons of cargo to the international space
station, which has been limping along overhead with a reduced crew and limited
supplies carried up on smaller Russian spacecraft. (3) {{U}}They replaced a broken
device, repaired another and carted away a load of rubbish that had been left on
the station, showing the shuttle can bring full loads back down from
space.{{/U}} This was the most scrutinized shuttle flight ever,
with the vehicle undergoing close inspection while still in orbit. (4) {{U}}New
sensing and photographic equipment to took for potentially dangerous damage to
the sensitive external skin proved valuable.{{/U}} A new back flip maneuver
allowed station astronauts to photograph the shuttle's underbelly, and an
extra-long robotic arm enabled astronauts to see parts of the shuttle that were
previously out of sight. {{U}}The flood of image and the openness
in discussing its uncertainties about potential hazards{{/U}} {{U}}sometimes, made
it appear that the shuttle was about to fall apart. In the end the damage was
clearly tolerable.{{/U}} A much-touted spacewalk to repair the shuttle's skin—the
first of its kind—moved an astronaut close enough to pluck out some protruding
material with his hand. Preliminary evidence indicates that Discovery has far
fewer nicks and gouges than shuttles on previous flights, perhaps showing that
improvements to reduce the shedding of debris from the external fuel tank have
had some success.
