问答题Directions: Read the following text carefully and then translate the underlined segments into Chinese. It is possible for students to obtain advanced degrees in English while knowing little or nothing about traditional scholarly methods. The consequences of this neglect of traditional scholarship are particularly unfortunate for the study of women writers. 46. {{U}}If the canon-the list of authors whose works are most widely taught-is ever to include more women, scholars must be well trained in historical scholarship and textual editing. {{/U}}Scholars who do not know how to read early manuscripts, locate rare books, establish a sequence of editions, and so on are bereft of crucial tools for revising the canon. 47.{{U}}To address such concerns, an experimental version of the traditional scholarly methods course was designed to raise students' consciousness about the usefulness of traditional learning for any modern critic or theorist. 48.To minimize the artificial aspects of the conventional course, the usual procedure of assigning a large number of small problems drawn from the entire range of historical periods was abandoned, though this procedure has the{{/U}} {{U}}obvious advantage of at least superficially familiarizing students with a wide range of reference sources. {{/U}}Instead students were engaged in a collective effort to do original work on a neglected eighteenth-century writer, Elizabeth Griffith, to give them an authentic experience of literary scholarship and to inspire them to take responsibility for the quality of their own work. Griffith's work presented a number of advantages for this particular pedagogical purpose. 49.{{U}}First, the body of extant scholarship on Griffith was so tiny that it could all be read in a day; thus students spent little time and effort mastering the literature and had a clear field for their own discoveries. {{/U}}Griffith's play The Platonic Wife exists in three versions, enough to provide illustrations of editorial issues but not too many for beginning students to manage. 50.{{U}}In addition, because Griffith was successful in the eighteenth century, as her continued productivity and favorable reviews demonstrate, her exclusion from the canon and virtual disappearance from literary history also helped raise issues concerning the current canon.{{/U}} The range of Griffith's work meant that each student could become the world's leading authority on a particular Griffith text. For example, a student studying Griffith's Wife in the Right obtained a first edition of the play and studied it for some weeks. This student was suitably shocked and outraged to find its title transformed into A wife in the Night in Watt's Bibliotheca Britannica. Such experiences, inevitable and common in working on a writer to whom so little attention has been paid, serve to vaccinate the student-I hope for a lifetime-against credulous use of reference sources.

问答题In my opinion, we are living on borrowed time. We have 3 or 4 days" worth of food in the city. And if that food supply is disrupted, we"ll be in a lot of trouble. We should have something in the city that replaces this very tenuous food supply and it should be growing in the city. The bulk of the world"s population are going to be urban and are going to be living in high-rise accommodation. How do you make sustainable living solutions for the real world? By the year 2050, over 3/4 of the world"s population is expected to live in cities. The trend towards urbanization is greater now than at any time in history. And as population grows, it poses a unique problem: how best to grow food and supply it to the cities? We are looking at the exciting and unconventional field of agriculture, that is vertical farming. It could radically change the view across the Thames here in London. 注释: (1)disrupt v. 分裂,破坏 (2)tenuous a. 薄的,细的 (3)bulk n. 大量,大批,the bulk of大半,大部分 (4)accommodation n.

问答题{{B}}Directions:{{/B}} A. Study the following account of a personal experience carefully and write an essay in no less than 200 words. B. Your essay must be written clearly on ANSWER SHEET 2. C. Your essay should meet the requirements below. 1) Elaborate your impressions on the story told, and 2) point out its implications in our life. One summer my wife Chris and I were invited by friends to row down the Colorado River in a boat. Our expedition included many highly successful people--the kind who have staffs to take care of life's daily work. But in the wilder rapids, all of us naturally set aside any pretenses and put out backs into every stroke to keep the boat from tumbling over. At each night's encampment, we all hauled supplies and cleaned dishes. After only two days in the river, people accustomed t-o being spoiled and indulged had become a team, working together to cope with the unpredictable twists and turns of the river. I believe that in life--as well as on boat trips-teamwork will make all our journeys successful ones. The rhythms of teamwork have been the rhythms of my life...

问答题The first day of class is a very important time for faculty to establish a tone for what will happen the rest of the term. It is appropriate that a teacher reflect on just what climate and first impression she/he would like to establish. This article offers some ideas about that important day. Reflecting on the first day of class, McKeachie suggests that"... meeting a group of strangers who will affect your well being, is at the same time exciting and anxiety-producing for both students and teacher." 46)Research on the first day of class by Dr. Bush showed there was a real desire on the part of both students and teachers for connectedness, but neither group realized the other shared that desire. If the participants on both sides don’t understand how to develop their relationships, learning will be diminished(减少,变小). If you have experienced some anxiety about this meeting, planning some specific steps can not only reduce that feeling, but can get students to share in the sense of purpose you hold for the class. Some faculty avoid the "first day anxiety" by handing out a syllabus, giving an assignment, and dismissing the class. This only postpones the inevitable. It also gives students a sense that class time is not too important. 47)Most of all, it loses the opportunity to use the heightened excitement and anticipation that students bring that day, the chance to direct that excitement toward enthusiasm for the class. What can you do to establish a positive beginning? 48)How can you make sure students' attitudes toward you, the course, and the subject matter will support a constructive learning climate for the semester? The following ideas have been gathered to stimulate your thoughts about these questions. Perhaps you will think of others, but the following are things which could contribute to this goal. They are not in a particular order, but can be sampled to fit your own preferences. Conveying a sense of enthusiasm for the content is also very important. Scholl Buchwald suggests that professors "Rarely... need to impress students with our command of the material. 49)What is not always clear to students is whether we are interested in the subject and whether we will be able to help them become as competent as we are." He suggests that one way to demonstrate enthusiasm is to talk about yourself and your own excitement about what you teach. What intrigues you, and what could interest them? 50)Another approach is to give a short lecture or lead a discussion to stimulate interest in the problem-solving that this subject matter could enable students to do. Consider core ideas, typical problems in the field, Cutting-edge discoveries, commonly held myths, provocative insights/interpretations or other stimulating insights into the field. Do you have slides or videotapes to enhance these images of inquiry? What interesting, related research is going on here at UNL? How might this have impact on their lives? How can you relate these ideas to their own experiences? Perhaps an interesting experiment or problem to solve can introduce the field.

问答题44. The Single long a stock figure in stories, songs and personal ads. was traditionally someone at the margins of society: a figure of fun, pity or awe. In the place of withered spinsters and bachelors are people like Elizabeth de Kergorlay, a 29-year-old Parisian banker who views her independence and her own apartment as the spoils of professional success. As the sages would say, we are all ultimately alone. But an increasing number of Europeans are choosing to be so at an ever earlier age. 45. This isn't the stuff of gloomy philosophical meditations, but a fact of Europe's new economic landscape, embraced by demographers, real-estate developers and ad executives alike. 46. The shift away from family life to solo lifestyles, observes French sociologist, Jean-Claude Kaufmanns, is part of the "irresistible momentum of individualism" over the last century. 47. The communications revolution, the shift from a business culture of stability to one of mobility and the mass entry of women into the workforce have wreaked havoc on Europeans' private lives. More and more of them are remaining on their own: they're living longer, divorcing more and marrying later—if at all. British marriage rates are the lowest in 160 years of records. INSEE, France's National Institute of Statistics, reports that the number of French people living alone doubled between 1968 and 1990. Europe's new economic climate has largely fostered the trend toward independence. 48. The current generation of home-aloners came of age during Europe's shift from social democracy to the sharper, more individualistic climate of American-style capitalism. Raised in an era of privatization and increased consumer choice, today's tech-savvy workers have embraced a free market in love as well as economics. Modern Europeans are rich enough to afford to live alone, and temperamentally independent enough to want to do so. A recent poll by the Institute Francois Dominion Publique, the French affiliate of the Gallup poll, found that 58 percent of French respondents viewed living alone as a choice, not an obligation. Other European singles agree. "I've always wanted to be free to go on adventures," says Iris Expender, who lives by herself in Berlin.
