问答题The idea behind One Foundation is simple: think big by thinking small. Starting in China, Li has set out to raise one yuan (15 cents) from every person each month. He likens it to one big family helping each other out. "All too often you see people expecting others to dip into their pockets," he says. "They blame their government. They say corporations with their big profits should be more generous. But I believe helping each other starts with the individuals. It is everybody"s responsibility to give. If everyone gives one yuan every month, it will add up to billions of dollars." To make that idea a reality, One Foundation has teamed up with the corporate sector. For example, Chinese entrepreneur Jack Ma, co-founder of the world"s leading B2B ecommerce company alibaba, corn, has agreed to let the foundation use AliPay, its online payment system, at no cost. In practical terms, this means that very small donations don"t get swallowed up by processing fees. Li and his team are still trying to convince online payment operators outside China to do the same, so the one yuan concept can be expanded around the world. 问答题Passage 1 If you look around at the men and women whom you can call happy, you will see that they all have certain things in common. The most important of these things is an activity which at most gradually builds up something that you are glad to see coming into existence. Women who take an instinctive pleasure in their children can get this kind of satisfaction out of bringing up a family. Artists and authors and men of science get happiness in this way if their own work seems good to them. But there are many humbler forms of the same kind of pleasure. Many men who spend their working life in the city devote their weekends to voluntary and unremunerated toil in their gardens, and when the spring comes, they experience all the joys of having created beauty.

问答题 In the early 1800s, groups of English workers wrecked machines that they felt threatened their jobs. (46){{U}}They were called "Luddites" after one of their leaders, a term that is now used for anyone who puts up resistance to new technologies.{{/U}} (47) {{U}}The odd thing about nanotechnology's Luddites is that they have started resisting before the technology has really established itself.{{/U}} As people start to buy products involving nanotechnology, from odour-resistant shirts to window glass that repels dirt, they will realise that many of these new things are useful and harmless. And as awareness of nanotechnology grows, they will begin to understand that it covers a range of different ways of doing things, some of which carry some risk and others do not. As a result, the technology's detractors will probably become more nuanced in their complaints. Nanotechnology has the potential to cause an industrial upheaval, just as electricity did in its time. (48) {{U}}Like electricity, though, it has so many and such diverse applications that it is unlikely to arrive in one huge wave, as nanotechnology's critics fear.{{/U}} Instead, there will be a series of smaller waves. (49){{U}}Many of the innovations the technology may bring are a long way off, leaving plenty of time to prepare.{{/U}} Nanotechnology, like any new discovery, offers both risks and rewards. There will undoubtedly be some need to control its exploitation to minimize the risks, but there are also strong arguments for allowing the unfettered pursuit of knowledge: without it, innovation cannot flourish. Twenty years ago, nobody could have foreseen that the invention of a new microscope would launch a remarkable new technology, perhaps a revolution. (50) {{U}}Scientists should be allowed to work with as little hindrance as possible to gain a better understanding of the object of their study-however large or small.{{/U}}

问答题However mean your life is, meet it and live it;do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not as bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The faultfinder will find faults even in the paradise. (2)Love your life,poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poor-house. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man's abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. (3)I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there,and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace. The town's poor seem to me often live the most independent lives of any. Maybe they are simply great enough to receive without misgiving. (4)Most think that they are above being supported by the town; but it often happens that they are not above supporting themselves by dishonest means. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. (5)Do not ble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old, return to them. Things do not change, and then we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.
