单选题From: David Johnson <davidlove@nextdesign.com> To: Eric Anderson <anderson1618@adlove.com> Hello, Eric. Thanks for your email. First, I'd like to say how pleased I was to hear that your company accepted our bid to design your new ad campaign. We will be using a subcontractor to handle all of the printing for this campaign, including pamphlets and signs. In the past, we have used a company called Quality Press. It is a subsidiary of Printco, and is quite reliable. I will send you a list of their estimated costs, along with a spreadsheet outlining the revision to our proposed schedule. Also, I have assigned one of our staff members to assemble a task for that will be in charge of consumer research for this project. Her name is Karen Lopez and she's a specialist in market trends. She will be mailing you a packet containing a summary of our preliminary market research later today. David Johnson

单选题I began to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt's house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then, I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me. I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to which I listened every morning. I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange and magical places I had know only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving never to come back was hardly in my head then. The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism, but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves. I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother remarried, and things became even more complex for me. Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other. I was often sad, and saw no end to "the hard times". My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home. I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with immigration officers, took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives. From my experiences I have learned one important rule: all common troubles eventually go away! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it not be that easy.

单选题February 18th Ruth Walter 2921 Cypress Lane Smithfield, UT 00375Dear Ms. Walter, It has come to our attention that you have failed to remit payment for service provided during the two billing periods of 7/15—8/14 and 9/15—10/14 last year. Our records indicate that multiple bills for these periods have been sent to your address without reply. At this point, we are regrettably required to take stronger measures. If by April 15 we have not received payment in full, including all late fees charged, we will be forced to terminate service to your residence. For further information about this action, or to verify the amount of your outstanding balance, please call our Customer Service Center at 1-888-555-3802, or write to the following address: Accounts Payable Division Northern Utah Gas & Power 55755 State Highway 16 Logan, UT 00378February 27th Accounts Payable Division Northern Utah Gas & Power 55755 State Highway 16 Logan, UT 00378Service representative, I recently received a notification of outstanding charges on my account. I am very confused and distressed by the situation outlined in your letter. First of all, I am certain that I paid for all services during the two billing period in question. The payments were on time and for the correct amount. I used your company's automated telephone billing system and paid with my credit card. I am including transaction receipts from my credit card company that list these payments and the dates on which they were processed by your company. After I had paid then, I did receive multiple bills for the periods 7/15 —8/14 and, 9/15 — 10/14 as stated in your letter. I tried repeatedly to report this error to your company via the customer service email system, but I never received a response. I am also attaching copies of these e-mails for your review. These documents clearly show that I have made all payments in a timely fashion, and I hope they will help you resolve this situation. If you have any more questions for me, please contact me by phone(555-7690)or email(rwalt79@m2mail.com). Ruth Walter

单选题When Mary Moore began her high school in 1951, her mother told her, "Be sure and take a typing course so when this show business thing doesn't work out, you'll have something to rely on." Mary responded in typical teenage fashion. From that moment on, "the very last thing I ever thought about doing was taking a typing course," she recalls. The show business thing worked out, of course. In her career, Mary won many awards. Only recently, when she began to write Growing Up A gain, did she regret ignoring her mom, " I don' t know how to use a computer," she admits. Unlike her 1995 autobiography, after all, her second book is less about life as an award-winning actress and more about living with diabetes(糖尿病). All the money from the book is intended for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation(JDRF), an organization she serves as an international chairman. "I felt there was a need for a book like this," she says. "I didn't want to lecture, but I wanted other diabetics to know that things get better when we're self-controlled and do our part in managing the disease." But she hasn' t always practiced what she teaches. In her book, she describes that awful day, almost 40 years ago, when she received two pieces of life-changing news. First, she had lost the baby she was carrying, and second, tests showed that she had diabetes. In a childlike act, she left the hospital and treated herself to a box of doughnuts(甜甜圈). Years would pass before she realized she had to grow up—again—and take control of her diabetes, not let it control her. Only then did she kick her three-pack-a-day cigarette habit, overcome her addiction to alcohol, and begin to follow a balanced diet. Although her disease has affected her eyesight and forced her to the sidelines of the dance floor, she refuses to fall into self-pity. "Everybody on earth can ask, 'why me?' about something or other, " she insists. "It doesn' t do any good. No one is immune to heartache, pain, and disappointments. Sometimes we can make things better by helping others. I've come to realize the importance of that as I've grown up this second time. I want to speak out and be as helpful as I can be."
