问答题Most of us have the same definition of happiness. Happiness is the specific goal that we set for ourselves. However, once we arrive at the goal we set for ourselves, we still feel dissatisfied. We have moved our vision to another one, and we try to chase another one. On one hand, 1 our life is enhanced by our dreams and aspirations. On the other hand, our enjoyment of life is pulled further and further by our faraway goals. By learning the lessons of gratitude and abundance, we can get closer to the enjoyment of life. 2 Gratitude means being thankful and appreciative of what we have, which fills our heart with the joyful feeling. It helps us to fully appreciate everything around us. We can try the following way to cultivate gratitude. 3 It is the best way to imagine what our life would be like if we lost what we had. This way can remind of what we have and help us to appreciate them. Put down what we are grateful for, so that we can be conscious of our blessings. 4 Spend time offering assistance to others who are less fortunate than you, so that you may gain perspective. Scarcity is one of the most common human fears. Sometimes we are not satisfied with what they have, striving to get as much as they can. In fact, 5 scarcity consciousness arises as a result of the "hole-in-the-soul syndrome", which means that people attempt to fill the gaps in our inner heart with the material things from outside world. It is necessary for us to remind what we have and revel in our interior abundance.

问答题 The case for college has been accepted without question for more than a generation. {{U}} {{U}} 1 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}All high school graduates ought to go, says conventional wisdom and statistical evidence, because college will help them earn more money, become "better" people, and learn to be more responsible citizens than those who don't go.{{/U}} But college has never been able to work its magic for everyone. And now that close to half our high school graduates are attending, those who don't fit the pattern are becoming more numerous, and more obvious. College graduates are selling shoes and driving taxis; college students interfere with each other's experiments and write false letters of recommendation in the intense competition for admission to graduate school. {{U}} {{U}} 2 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}Others find no stimulation in their studies, and drop out -- often encouraged by college administrators.{{/U}} Some observers say the fault is with the young people themselves -- they are spoiled and they are expecting too much. But that's a condemnation of the students as a whole, and doesn't explain ~ all campus unhappiness. Others blame the state of the world, and they are partly right. We've been told that young people have to go to college because our economy can't absorb an army of untrained eighteen-year-olds. {{U}} {{U}} 3 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}But disappointed graduates are learning that it can no longer absorb an army of trained twenty-two-year-olds, either.{{/U}} {{U}} {{U}} 4 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}Some adventuresome educators and campus watchers have openly begun to suggest that college may not be the best, the proper, the only place for every young person after the completion of high school.{{/U}} We may have been looking at all those surveys and statistics upside down, it seems, and through the rosy glow of our own remembered college experiences. Perhaps college doesn't make people intelligent, ambitious, happy, liberal, or quick to learn things -- maybe it's just the other way around, and intelligent, ambitious, happy, liberal, quick-learning people are merely the ones who have been attracted to college in the first place. {{U}} {{U}} 5 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}And perhaps all those successful college graduates would have been successful whether they had gone to college or not.{{/U}} This is heresy to those of us who have been brought up to believe that if a little schooling is good, more has to be much better. But contrary evidence is beginning to mount up.

问答题61) The increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication. Americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts. Negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. 62) It involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participate in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation. In many international business negotiations abroad, Americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. 63) It often appears to the foreign negotiator that the American represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. The American negotiator's role becomes that of an impersonal purveyor of information and cash. In studies of American negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator's position. 64) Two traits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the American negotiator. Furthermore, American negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals. 65) Foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established between negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long-term benefits. In order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator. Clearly, perceptions and differences in values affect the outcomes of negotiations and the success of negotiators. For Americans to play a more effective role in international business negotiations, they must put forth more effort to improve cross-cultural understanding.

问答题There is a marked difference between the education which everyone gets from living with others, and the deliberate educating of the young. In the former case the education is incidental: it is natural and important, but it is not the express reason of the association. (61) It may be said that the measure of the worth of any social institution is its effect in enlarging and improving experience: but this effect is not a part of its original motive. Religious associations began, for example, in the desire to secure the favor of overruling powers and to ward off evil influences: family life in the desire to gratify appetites and secure family perpetuity: systematic labor, for the most part, because of enslavement to others, etc. (62) Only gradually was the by-product of the institution noted, and only more gradually still was this effect considered as a directive factor in the eonduet of the institution. Even today, in our industrial life, apart from certain values of industriousness and thrift, the intellectual and emotional reaction of the forms of human association under which the world's work is carried on receives little attention as compared with physical output. But in dealing with the young, the fact of association itself as an immediate human fact, gains its importance. (63) While it is easy to ignore in our contact with them the effect of our acts upon their disposition, it is not so easy as in dealing with adults. The need of training is too evident: the pressure to accomplish a change in their attitude and habits is too urgent to leave these consequences wholly out of account. (64)Since our chief business with them is to enable them to share in a common life we cannot help considering whether or not we are forming the powers which will secure this ability. If humanity has made some headway in realizing that the ultimate value of every institution is its distinctive human effect we may well believe that this lesson has been learned largely through dealings with the young. (65)We are thus led to distinguish, within the broad educational process which we have been so far considering, a more formal kind of education-that of direct tuition or schooling. In undeveloped social groups, we find very little formal teaching and training. These groups mainly rely for instilling needed dispositions into the young upon the same sort of association which keeps the adults loyal to their group.
