单选题In ancient (古代) time the most important examinations were spoken, not written. In the schools of ancient Greece and Rome, testing usually consisted of saying poetry aloud or giving speeches. In the European universities of the Middle Ages, students who were working for advanced degrees had to discuss questions in their field of study of the subject. This custom exists today as part of the work of testing candidates (候选人) for a master's or doctor's degree. Generally, however, modern examinations are written. Two types of tests are commonly used in modern schools. The first type is sometimes called an objective (客观性) test, it is intended to deal with facts, not personal opinions. To make up an objective test, the teacher writes a series of questions, each of which has only one correct answer. Along with each question the teacher writes the correct answer and also three statements that look like answers to students who have not learned the material properly. The student has just one task: he must recognize the correct answer and copy its letter or number on his examination paper. For testing a student's memory of facts and details, the objective test has advantages. It can find out a great deal about the student's range of knowledge. For testing some kinds of learning, however, such a test is not very satisfactory. A lucky student may guess the correct answer without really knowing the material.

He held the man"s hand and said, "But, oh, you have changed so much. You had thick hair ten years ago and now it"s thin. You didn"t wear glasses before, but now you are wearing re- ally a pair of thick ones." He smiled at the man again. "But you"re still the same John Foster. Do you remember that we often drank tea together? We had some good times, didn"t we, John?" "Excuse me, sir," the man said, "but my name isn"t John Foster." Mr. Right thought for a minute, then he said, "So you"ve changed your name, haven"t you ?"

单选题根据下面短文回答下列问题。 A lion was sleeping in his den(窝). A mouse ran across his face and woke him up. The lion lost his temper, caught the mouse with his paw(爪子), and was about to kill him. The mouse was terrified and begged the lion to spare his life. "please let me go," he cried, "and one day I will repay you for your kindness." The idea of so tiny a creature ever being able to do anything for him made the lion laugh aloud, and he let the mouse go. But the mouse's chance came after all. One day the lion got tangled (绑) in a net that had been spread by some hunters. The lion roared in anger, and the mouse heard him. He ran to the spot and set to work. He gnawed(咬) the ropes with his teeth and, before long, set the lion free. "There," said the mouse, "you laughed at me when I promised that I would repay you. 单选题Modern life is impossible without traveling. The fastest way of traveling is by plane. With plane you can travel in one day to places which needed a month or more to get to hundreds of years ago. Traveling by train is slower than by plane, but you can see the places you are traveling through. They make the longest journey enjoyable. Some people prefer to travel by sea. Ships are not so fast as trains or planes, but traveling by sea is a very pleasant way to spend a holiday. Many people like to travel by car. You can make your own timetable. You can travel three or four hundred miles or only fifty or one hundred miles a day, just as you like. You can stop if there is something interesting. That's why traveling by car is popular for pleasure trips, while people usually take a train or a plane when they travel on business.
