These four introductory training courses will generally last
two or three hours each and will be timetabled over the first two weeks of your
employment. For all of the courses, you should go to the Training Center, except
for the Health and Safety Course which is held in Room 301. The
first course will begin with a tour of the building. You will be shown key
places such as the post room, the first aid room and the Chief Executive's
office. Everyone must attend the second course, on health and
safety. This will include what to do in case of fire. Any employees who would
like to follow a course on emergency first aid should tell their instructor
after this talk. The third course covers company goals, plus
information on the structure of company and the senior management
team. The final course looks at hours of work, salaries and sick
leave. However, we will not be able to discuss individual contracts and job
descriptions. If you have any doubts about what your job includes, please speak
to your department head.

填空题Can shyness be completely overcome, or at least reduced? The answer is positive. Here are some specific helpful steps toward building self-confidence and overcoming shyness:
1. Recognize your personal strengths and weaknesses. Everyone has both. As self-acceptance grows, shyness naturally diminishes.
2. Set reasonable goals. For example, you may be timid about being with a group of strangers at a party. Don"t feel that you must talk with everyone. Concentrate on talking to only one or two people. You will feel more comfortable.
3. Guilt and shame are destructive feelings. Don"t waste time and energy on them. Suppose you have hurt someone"s feelings. Feeling ashamed won"t do any good. Instead, accept the fact that you have made a mistake, and make up your mind to be more sensitive in the future.
4. There are numerous ways to avoid complaining about yourself. Avoid describing yourself as stupid, ugly, worthless, a failure. Stress the positive.
5. Accept criticism thoughtfully. Do not regard it as a personal attack. If, for example, a friend complains about your cooking, accept it as a comment on your cooking, not yourself. You are the same good friends; perhaps your cooking could improve.
Each one of us is a unique, worthwhile individual. We are interesting in our own personal ways. The better we understand ourselves, the easier it becomes to realize our full potential. Let"s not allow shyness to block our chances for a rich life.

填空题Directions: The following is a Discussion about People's
Attitude Towards the Change of Languages. After reading it , you are required to
fill the blanks below it (No. 46 through No. 50). You should write your answers
briefly in no more than 3 words on the Answer Sheet
correspondingly. Languages are changing all
the time, and the English language is no exception. Some people welcome change
as healthy; other people regard it as inevitable, but do not welcome it; still
other people welcome certain changes but not all; and still other people regard
all changes as bad. Professor Randolph Quirk pointed out: "Some
people imagine that there is one linguistic form on any given occasion, and that
language is invariant. They imagine that the form they may have learnt in school
is somehow correct and that any difference from it is only private and personal
and certainly wrong. Now, for many years, we have been trying to get across to
such people the fact that language is subtly different in expressions. Language
will enable us to be friendly at one moment, to be dignified, to be pride, to be
hurtful even. A single form of language isn' t really able to do all those
things. " The "protectors" of the language often accuse
linguists of speeding the decline of the language. They would prefer the
linguists to try to discourage certain developments. They linguists, on the
other hand, are interested in finding out what actual usage is, and what this
can tell us about human communication.
