填空题This is an English as a second Language reading skills textbook intended for intermediate, college-bound students. This textbook consists of 4 sections. Each section contains three chapters that deal with related subjects. At the same time, each chapter is an independent unit, entirely separate in content from the other two chapters contained in that section. This gives the instructor the option of either completing entire sections or choosing individual chapters as a focus in class. All the chapters provide the students with interesting and stimulating topics to read, think about, and discuss. The initial exercises are an introduction to each reading passage and encourage the students to think about the ideas, facts, and vocabulary that will be presented. The exercises that follow the reading passage are intended to improve reading comprehension skills as well as comprehension of English sentences structure. Students will learn and improve independent skills and develop confidence as they work through the textbook. At the same time, the teacher will be able to observe their steady progress towards skillful, independent reading. The readership of the textbook: 1 The number of the section in the book: 2 The topics in each chapter: 3 The purposes of the exercises following the reading passage: 4 5

填空题July 20, 2004Dear Sirs, Today we have received your bill for 150 name-bearing (刻有名子的) crystal vases (花瓶) which you sent us the other day. We had ordered these vases on condition that they should reach us by the end of June. But they arrived here 15 days behind the schedule. The customers refused to accept the goods because they arrived too late. Since the vases bear their names, we cannot sell them to other customers. So we asked the customers again and again to take the vases, and finally they agreed to accept them, but at a price cut of 30%. You may understand how we have lost the customer's confidence in us. In this situation. we have to ask you to compensate for the loss we have suffered. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon. Yours faithfully, G. Pastry

填空题Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall (中山纪念堂), a national major cultural relic of Guangdong Province, was designed by Mr. Lu Yanzhi, a reputable Chinese architect, and sponsored by the local people of Guangzhou and overseas Chinese to commemorate (纪念) Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great forerunner (先驱) of Chinese revolution. The Hall saw its construction started in 1929 and completed in 1931 at where the President Palace had been. Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall, an octagonal (八边形的) building with grand presence, features a strong Chinese style. The 52-meter-high main hall accounts for 12000 square meters out of the total 6.3 hectares of the whole complex. It spans as wide as 71 meters in the absence of a single pillar, thanks to the designer's ingenious application of the architectural mechanics and structural combination of steel framework and ferroconcrete (钢筋混凝土). The main hall holds a 15-meter-wide, 20-meter-deep stage and 3238 seats. Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is one of the most symbolic buildings of Guangzhou, and it is also a major site for great convention and performance, a tourist attraction to visitors home and abroad.
