单选题For Chinese wanting to work as nurses in the United State, the arrival of the test of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing School (CGFNS) may be a welcome move. The CGFNS has a certification programme for people wanting to work as registered nurses in the US. The first CGFNS test in China is to be held in Beijing in July. Registrations are open till April 9. According to US labour law, nurses have to pass the National Council License Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) before they can practise. However, the NCLEX-RN is only useful in the US, making it difficult for people from other countries to get in. But the US expects a shortage of 50,000 nurses by 2010. So the CGFNS has not replaced the NCLEX-RN, which is still needed for work as a registered nurse in the US. So what exactly does CGFNS do? First of all, it helps international nurses qualify for a work visa for the US. Nurses educated abroad who do not have a US license by the NCLEX-RN, must get the CGFNS certificate. "But not everyone who gets a CGFNS certificate can get a work visa. There are many requirements for a visa, and the CGFNS is just one," said John Ratigan, immigration officer for the CGFNS. The certificate helps applicants meet requirements for the NCLEX-RN, for two states require a CGFNS certificate from nurses educated abroad before taking the NCLEX-RN. According to Barbara Michols, chief officer of CGFNS, "the CGFNS is cost-efficient for the Chinese. If they can't pass the CGFNS here in China, their chances of passing the NCLEX-RN for the US are tiny. This saves time and money on visa applications and the long trip." In a word, to get a GGFNS certificate, a person must have: a credentials review, the CGFNS qualifying exam of nursing knowledge and an English language proficiency exam.

Mother's Day is a time of commemoration
and celebration for Mom. It is a time of breakfast in bed, family gatherings,
and crayon scribbled "I Love You". The earliest Mother's Day
celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in
honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. During the 1600's, England celebrated a
day called "Mothering Sunday". Celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent ( the 40 day
period leading up to Easter), "Mothering Sunday" honored the mothers of
England. In the United States Mother's Day was first suggested
in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe (who wrote the words to the Battle hymn of the
Republic ) as a day dedicated to peace. Ms. Howe would hold organized Mother's
Day meetings in Boston, Mass every year. In 1907 Ana Jarvis,
from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day. Ms.
Jarvis persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate
Mother's Day on the second anniversary of her mother's death, the 2nd Sunday of
May. By the next year Mother's Day was also celebrated in
Philadelphia. Ms. Jarvis and her supporters began to write to
ministers, businessmen, and politicians in their quest to establish a national
Mother's Day. It was successful as by 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost
every state. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official
announcement proclaiming Mother's Day as a national holiday that was to be held
each year on the 2nd Sunday of May.

You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center. Wireless phones are available on today's consumer market. Like most people, you're probably interested in a little handheld number. They're small and light. Transmitting (发 送) 0.2 to 0.6 watt of power, these wireless phones come in a variety of models, digital cellular and digital PCS (personal communications service) models, as well as many cool shapes and colors. How do you choose a mobile when two or three models look equally good? Think about these characteristics: A big, bright display — The more you use your phone, the more you'll appreciate an ease-to-read display; Light weight — Most wireless phones these days are tiny, so why take a 10-ounce model when a 6-ounce one works just as well? Accessories (配送) — If you want a certain type of hands-free car kit (成套用具) or other accessory, make sure it's available for your specific phone; Battery life — Look for a phone that allows you to talk for a long time; External volume control — Take a phone with an external volume control. You'll appreciate it the first time you use it in a noisy place; Easy ringer volume control — Buy a phone that rings loudly enough for a moderately noisy environment, but is easy to tone down for, say, a funeral. Even better, get a phone with a vibrating alert.
单选题People in Britain and the USA are taking more interest in modern dance. Dance classes of all kinds are popular; the audiences going to watch modem dance companies are also larger. And perhaps the most popular modern dance company in Britain is the Ballet Rambert. The Ballet Rambert is Britain' s oldest established dance company which began in 1926. In the 60s the company lacked the money to go on staging big productions. The directors wanted to encourage new talent and to keep up their high standards. A change of direction was necessary. They decided to give the ballet a "new look" in 1966. The aim was to pro vide a chance for new talent -- for musicians and designers as well as dancers -- and to show dance as a contemporary art form. And although some of the company' s previous fans disliked the change, new audiences came to see the productions. The modern dance pieces and modern music found unexpected popularity. In 1968 the Ballet Rambert was a great success in London' s West End. The company became a focus for new, progressive talent in the arts. Later, the Ballet Rambert started to introduce young people to modern dance by giving performances at schools, which again, was a success. The Ballet Rambert has managed to make modem dance popular while creating original and often avant-garde (标新立异的) productions. It can claim to be the oldest dance company in Britain and at the same time one of the most modern!

单选题Getting an online degree through distance learning has become possible because of the increased availability of the Internet throughout the world. However, what are the actual benefits and disadvantages of distance education?
Potential Benefits: The most obvious reasons for trying to get an online degree are time and money. With an online course, you can join a class, do assignment s on the Internet, and even communicate with classmates in chat rooms or on bulletin board. Technology has even reached the point where students can interact with other students and the teacher through High-quality web conferencing(网络会议).
All of these activities can be done from the comfort of your home or laptop (手提电脑):any time, any place.
Second, getting such a degree can, in some cases, be cheaper because you don"t have to pay costs related to an overseas adventure: air-tickets, housing, local transportation, etc.
Potential Disadvantages: For all these benefits, there are a number of disadvantages to this kind of learning. Above all else, you have to consider how a degree form an online school will be received by future employers because they might fell that the academic standards of such an online institution are not as high as a regular program.
Second, you probably won"t have face-to-face contact with other students since everything is online. Such contact is very important in learning how to deal with many aspects of non-verbal communication that aren"t obvious in an online chat room.
单选题A) It needed fixing. C) It couldn't receive any program. B) It got lost. D) Its images were not clear.

单选题Working at home in your nightclothes while saving hundreds of dollars may sound too goodto be true, but it isn't. More and more employees are telecommuting, doing their job at home oranother remote site. "It's a trend that's here now and you're going to see a lot more telecommuting because people don't have to put up with commuting (来回上下班). They want more work/life balance, theywant less stress in their lives and companies want to drive costs after their bottom lines," says JohnEdwards, President of the International Telework Association and Council. However, Edwards says, "The biggest problem at the moment is dealing with middle managementwho is uncomfortable with management style focusing on results. They are used to the line ofsight management style. But they have to change to more results-oriented management style whichcan often be slightly opposite, so they feel uncomfortable with that." Edwards says telecommuting kills distance—and a lot of face to face meetings are replacedby teleconferences. "Distance does not exist anymore. It's the death of distance, if you like. Sonow it's possible to have more invisible teams so that the necessity to have the old bricks andwalls existing is beginning to disappear./

Expels tell people to seek the safety of a building or a hard-top vehicle(运输工具)anytime they hear thunder, even if it is not raining. Safety experts say people in buildings should stay away from anything with wires or pipes that lead to the outside. The National Weather Service says if you plan to disconnect any electronic equipment, do so before the storm arrives. Do not use a wired telephone. Do not use water. All these can carry electricity. Some people think a person struck by lightning carries an electrical charge(电荷) afterward. Experts say this is not true. It is safe to begin emergency treatment. Each year about four hundred people in the United States are struck by lightning. Last year forty four people died. The average is close to seventy. The National Weather Service says that is more than the number of people killed by severe storms.
