A girl may pass easily through the first few grades. While boys of her age being have low marks, the girl may easily get good grades. Girls seem to have 'better brains' in school. Why do so few girls become great scientists? Why is the most important thinking in adult world done by man? According to scientists, the answer is aggressive (进取性), Boys usually refuse to accept other people's condition, They insist on solving problems for themselves. While little girls are getting high marks in school for remembering what the teacher has told them, little boys are leaving to think in their own ways. Boys are usually the ones who get high pay and powerful job because they are trained to be aggressive at an early age.

How man first learnt to invent words is unknown; in other words, the origin of language is a mystery. All we really know is that man, unlike animals, somehow invented certain sounds to express thoughts and feelings, actions and things, so that they could communicate with each other; and that later they agreed upon certain signs, called letters, which could be combined to stand for those sounds, and which could be written down. Those sounds, whether spoken or written in letters, we call words. The power of word, then lies in their association with the things they bring up before our minds. Words became filled with meanings for us by experience; and the longer we live, the more certain words recall to us the glad and sad events of our past; and the more we read and learn, the more the number of words that mean something to us increase. Great writers are those who not only have great thoughts but also express these thoughts in words that appeal powerfully to our minds and emotions. We should therefore learn to choose our words carefully and use them exactly, or they will make our speech silly and impolite.

Recruiters spend an average of six seconds reviewing a resume before they make the initial decision on candidates. That means you have to win them over fast. The tips below offer you a helpful guide. Pay attention to privacy of personal details. Westerners have different definitions and explanations on the term 'privacy' from people in Asia. In English resumes, it is not required to provide information such as date of birth, ID number, marital (婚姻的) status, place of origin, race, religion, health condition or family background. Use reverse chronological (时间的) order. This is the most helpful for recruiters because they're able to see what you've been doing in recent years immediately. Do not list achievements in dense blocks of text. Recruiters receive so many resumes, so make it as easy as possible for them to understand why you're perfect for the job. Dense blocks of text are too difficult to read. List achievements in two to five bullet points per job. Under each job or experience you've had, explain how you contributed to or supported your team's projects. Add an image. A personal photo can leave an impression on the recruiters, as long as the photos are appropriate. Being professional can bring a huge advantage on your application. Send different resumes to different companies. Instead of making minor modifications on the previous resume, you should rewrite it according to the preference of your desired company.

Dear Sir or Madam, In response to your advertisement in yesterday's Time Educational Supplement, I would like to apply for the job of teaching English. I enclose a copy of my resume, a letter of recommendation from my current employer and copies of relevant certificates. As you will see from my resume, I have been teaching English to groups of adults of mixed nationalities in the past two years. I have taught students at all levels and I am experienced in preparing students for external exams. Though I have no experience of teaching children, I am sure that I would be able to adapt my understanding of teaching adults appropriately for children and quickly develop the relevant skills. I have always been able to learn new skills quite easily and I enjoy the challenge that each new experience represents. I feel certain that I could use my skills in ways that could benefit your organization. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require my further information. Yours faithfully, Peter Garner

Everybody has an opinion about telecommuting (远程办公). 'It won't work in most jobs,' 'It costs too much,' 'It reduces air pollution,' 'It helps people balance family and work responsibilities,' and 'Most people are doing it.' In reality, researchers continue to find strong growth and acceptance of telecommuting. Nearly two thirds of the top 1,000 companies in the world have a telecommuting program, and 92 percent say it reduces cost and improves worker productivity (生产力). The days of everyone commuting to the office five days a week are quickly disappearing. Telecommuting involves a non-traditional work arrangement enabling workers to work at home or elsewhere, some or all of the time. This is not a new, novel, or untested way of working. But is it for you? Telecommuting is not a panacea (万能药). Whether you are a manager, or an HR (Human Resources) specialist, there are decisions to make and actions to take before you begin a telecommuting arrangement. Join us for any or all of the following meetings to get answers, information, and resources to develop and carry out a successful telecommuting arrangement. Each meeting offers you an informative presentation followed by the opportunity for a discussion with a panel of 'experts' who have made telecommuting work for them.

It is the vision (设想) of the Public Transit Police Department to achieve a transit system free from crime and disorder. Transit police programs are designed to enhance safety, increase riders and preserve the quality of our system's structure. Transit has its own police force committed to the safety of its customers and drivers, serving seven counties and 85 cities in the region. There are 23 full-time officers, 146 part-time officers and five administrative(行政的) staff, devoted to one thing: public safety. You've probably seen Transit Police officers patrolling(巡逻) bus routes in cars or on foot. During visits with drivers, Transit Police either ride along or they step on board to greet drivers and passengers. Sometimes officers patrol out of uniform—one could be on your next bus. The fare inspectors on Hiawatha light-rail trains are Transit Police officers. Every new Public Transit bus has an on-board security camera. Videotapes from these cameras help Transit Police identify and charge criminals. Downtown patrols built up in early 2002 have improved the quality of life for downtown residents and transit customers. Ten full-time police officers are assigned to the Minneapolis and St. Paul downtown areas, to ensure public security. Downtown an'ests have gone from 490 in April—September 2001 to 941 during the same period in 2002.

When you open your electronic mail, you may find information about how to buy medicine, cheap airline tickets, books, computer products, and so on. There may also be offers for investment deals, bank loans and special holidays. However, to many computer users, this use of electronic spam to sell products has become a major problem as it makes computer communication more difficult. Many companies that want to send a great deal of advertising at the same time might use the services of a 'spammer'. A spammer is a person or company that uses computers to send out millions of copies of the same sales information. Spammers get people's e-mail addresses from websites, news groups and 'chat rooms' where people send messages to each other. Most spare is sent by companies that are trying to get you to buy their products. Some of these are honest companies that may offer good products or services for fair prices. These companies can offer their products for a cheaper price than you might find in a store. However, much of the spare on the Internet is sent by criminals (罪犯) who are trying to sell products that do not exist or offer services they will not provide at all. What they are only interested in is stealing your money. When you answer their spare you find you are expected to send them money and receive a gift. If you just follow what they ask you to do without any consideration, it is likely that you will be cheated and lose some money.

MP3 Players take the music experience to an entirely new level, freeing those on the go (忙碌,活跃) from bulky (体积大的) CD players. MP3 Players are very small and lightweight. Modern MP3 Players can hold hundreds of songs and play them in any order you want. You can use your MP3 Player to create your own mix of music. You can transfer selected songs from your favorite CDs or download them from the Internet for a very low fee. The MP3 Format MP3 Players use the MP3 format, which is a very efficient compression (压缩) system for music files. And it performs this compression with little or no noticeable difference in sound quality. MP3 Player Features Size—In general, the smaller the MP3 Player the better. There are several MP3 Players on the market that aren't much larger than a postage stamp! Computer Connection—Most MP3 Players today connect to your PC via a standard USB port. Memory—This is perhaps the most important factor to consider when shopping for an MP3 Player. The more memory your MP3 Player has, the more songs you can store on it. The purchase of an MP3 Player is an investment in your relaxation and enjoyment. If you spend just a little more to buy an MP3 player that is reliable and expandable, you can enjoy your music 'on the go' for years to come.

'Avoid the rush-hour' must be the slogan of large cities all over the world. Wherever you look, there're people, people, people. The streets are so crowded that there is hardly room to move; when a bus arrives, it's so full that it can't take any more passengers. The extraordinary thing is not that people put up with these conditions, but that they actually choose them in preference to anything else. Large modern cities are too big to control. They impose their own living conditions on the people who inhabit them. It is possible to live such an air-conditioned existence in a large city that you are barely conscious of the seasons. What is going on in nature seems totally irrelevant. Even the distinction between day and night is lost. The funny thing about it all is that you pay dearly for the 'privilege' of living in a city. The demand for accommodation is so great that high rents must be paid for tiny flats which even country hens would scorn (不屑于接受) to live in. Accommodation apart, the cost of living is very high. Just about everything you buy is likely to be more expensive than it would be in the country. In addition to all these, city inhabitants live under constant threats. The crime rate in most cities is very high. If you think about it, they're not really fit to live in at all. Can anyone really doubt that the country is what man was born for and where he truly belongs?

Many countries have been developing new energy to handle greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change, while buzzwords such as clean energy, green energy and renewable energy receive much publicity. New energy is a concept that is contrary to traditional fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal. In addition to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and biomass power, new energy sources also include nuclear power. As a non-renewable energy source, nuclear energy almost produces no pollution. But it consumes uranium (铀) fuel and produces nuclear waste. The development of nuclear energy also requires big investment. Yet it is a good alternative to fossil fuels as the world is striving to curb carbon dioxide emissions. Clean energy, or green energy, refers to those energy sources that cause no pollution. As nuclear energy almost produces no pollution, some experts also classify it as a kind of clean energy source. A similar concept is renewable energy, which is generated from renewable natural resources such as water, sunlight, wind, methane gas, geothermal heat and tidal waves. As renewable energy is naturally replenished, many countries prioritize (优先) the development of this category. However, renewable energy relies much on natural conditions and requires heavy investment and high maintenance cost. Its energy efficiency is also relatively low. Currently, many scientists are searching ways to boost the efficiency of renewable energy to improve the energy mix in a world where the problem of natural resource shortage is becoming large.
