Camping Tips
Camping is a cost-effective, fun way to enjoy a family holiday. But if you shudder at the thought of mud, outside loos and cooking on a one-ring stove, it might be time for a re-think. Camping and campsites have come a long way in recent years. You can take a look at our guide for useful tips and inspiration. ● When booking a campsite, check whether or not your pitch is likely to be near the entertainment bit. Off-key karaoke is not to everyone's taste, on the other hand you might actually want to be near it. ● Before you pack games equipment like football, Frisbees or tennis rackets, check that your campsite doesn't already supply them as part of the package. ● It's probably worth checking out where the first aid help is when you arrive. The campsite should provide first aid supplies, and have details of the nearest doctor and hospital. ● Write down the menu for all meals for your trip. This way you'll know what you need to take, or what you can wait to buy. ● Meals that can be cooked at home ahead of time will save a lot of time for the first couple of nights of your trip. Precooked meat will last longer in the cooler than raw meat.
Today our knowledge of food and what it does for our bodies is far more advanced than that of the old times. Now we know about vitamins and how each kind of vitamin helps in the growth of a particular part of our body. There are on the market all kinds of vitamins which one can take to make up for one's lack of certain important things that are needed for good health. Of course, if we eat well and properly, the food we eat will take care of our body and so there is no need to take any kinds of vitamins unless our doctor tells us that our bodies are short of something that can be supplied by them. Generally speaking, everything we eat does some good to our body, but if we eat too much of one kind of food and pay too little attention to others, we may have too much of one kind and not enough of others. Then we may be in trouble. We are often told that we must eat some meat at each meal in order to get the necessary proteins. That is only partly true, for proteins are not found only in meat. We can also get them from some vegetables. The best advice about what to eat is that we should eat all kinds of food but never too much for any.

India is the world's biggest gold consumer, but the country's passion for the yellow metal is waning (逐渐减弱). Record high prices and the recent economic recession have taken away some of the glitter of gold. The country's passion for gold is rooted in culture and custom. Gold ornaments (装饰品) are a traditional wedding present to brides and a gift of the precious metal during their religious festivals means good fortune. It is a traditional gift on other important occasions, such as the birth of a child. But shop owners say now they only see 'essential customers'—those who have to buy for the marriage of a son or a daughter. Even these buyers are scaling back on purchases. Some are passing on traditional hereditary (遗传的) treasures, instead of buying new gold. Others are cutting back on the quantity of gold they buy and opting for ornaments of lesser weight. Gold is getting hit not just by the surging prices. In the big cities, the attraction of the precious metal is waning, as trends change. The new status symbol of the country's wealthy class is no longer jewelry, but expensive mobile phones, iPods or designer labels. However, in a country where the love of gold dates back centuries, jewelry shop owners say they will wait patiently for sales to pick up. As has happened many times in the past, they are hoping that customers will flock back, once they get accustomed to the higher prices.

Environment is everything that surrounds us: plants, animals, buildings, country, air, water—in fact everything that can affect us in any way. And environment differs in different parts of the world. Ecology is the science of how living creatures and plants exist together and depend on each other on the local environment. Where an environment is undisturbed, the ecology of an area is in balance. But if a creature dies out or an alien(相异的) species is introduced, then the ecology of this area will be upset. Man is a part of the environment and has done more to upset the ecology during his short span on earth than any other living creature. He has poisoned the atmosphere and polluted both land and water. He has wasted the earth's natural resources with no thought for the future. He has killed a lot of precious animals for his delicacies (精美的食品)on the table and for his elegant overcoats. Since man has done so much damage, it is up to man to try to put matters right. And the sooner he does something about it, the better. 1) 47 is everything that surrounds us. 2) 48 is the science of how living creatures and plants exist together. 3)The ecology of an area is 49 , where an environment is undisturbed. 4)Man is 50 of the environment. 5)Man has poisoned the atmosphere and 51 both land and water.

In the United States and Canada, a prom, short for promenade, is a formal dance, or getting together of high school students. It is always held near the end of the junior and/or senior year. It is a major event among high school students. High school juniors taking part in the prom may call it Junior Prom while high school seniors may call it Senior Prom. In fact, it is always a dance for both juniors and seniors. At prom, a Prom Queen and Prom King may be showed. Other students may be honored to take part in a 'Prom Court'. Prom Queen and Prom King are honorary titles (荣誉称号) given to students who are chosen in a school-wide vote (投票) before the prom. Whether you can be a member in a Prom Court is due to the popularity of those chosen and their level of participation in school activities including sports. This honor is usually given to seniors. In addition to Prom Queen and Prom King, juniors may also be honored, but would be called 'Prom Prince' or 'Prom Princess'. The British would call it Leavers' Ball or Leavers' Dinner formally, or informally, Leavers' Do. This is closer to the Australian description, although in the UK, some schools have called the above events proms. In Canada, Ireland and Australia the terms Grad or Formal are most commonly used and the event is usually held for those graduating high school or middle school. In Ireland, the event is also known as the Debs, which is derived (源自) from Debutante.

You'd think Pauline Hord would have served her time by now. After all, she recently celebrated her 90th birthday, and by the time she achieved that breathtaking (激动人心的) milestone, she'd already done a 10-year stretch in the Mississippi State Prison. Ms. Hord is a sweet-natured, gentle-talking, white-haired Southerner who never owed a debt to society—thus, she never had to pay one. So you have to wonder what a woman like this is doing in a place where most people are itching to get loose. Unlike the rest of the population, Ms. Hord goes to prison freely and eagerly. And when she gets there, she persuades prisoners of every sort to sing little ditties (短歌谣) about their ABCs and XYZs. At age 80, Ms. Hord began teaching prisoners to read during a chance visit to the State Prison with a lawyer friend. 'When I got there, I heard that a group of volunteer workers had been praying for a teacher. They asked me if I would come and I said I would be thrilled (非常激动的),' she said. On a personal level, Ms. Hord considers this rewarding work. 'If you get at the reason why these men went into crime, you will find that none of them succeeded in their early years of schooling. They went to school at 5 believing they were going to learn to read. When they didn't learn in the first or second grade, they realized something was wrong. By 8, they were having problems. By 12 or 13, they were drinking or using drugs. And it's getting worse. I'm seeing younger and younger prisoners who know less and less. They can't read well enough to function in this society,' she said. It is this situation that Ms. Hord goes to prison week after week to correct. And when her most difficult students finally begin to read, she is sure that she, too, knows why the caged birds sing.

Dear Sirs, This is the third month running that your delivery has been late in arriving. Our current order for stationery is already five days overdue. We have a number of valued customers who are being put to some inconvenience. There seems to be no obvious reason why your normally prompt deliveries should become so unreliable. I would be obliged if you would look into this matter as soon aspossible. Ours is a small family business in a very parochial (狭小的) area. We depend very much upon the goodwill of our customers. I'm sure you will appreciate the importance of this matter being cleared up at your easiest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Grayson Brown

With freshmen starting college across the country, now is the time to be thinking about money. Here are 4 amazing tips. Keep Your Personal Finances Mobile The first step is to start keeping accounts for yourself. This is how you learn what responsibility is and how you become truly independent. Now we're luckier than our parents once were, because there are now a lot of convenient APPs on your smartphone that can give you a real time image of your money and spendings. Credit Is Important, So Use It Responsibly My best financial advice for college students is to be smart with you first credit card. Look for a card with no annual fee, good rewards, and of course—a reasonable interest rate. If the salespeople tell you that the offer is only good for that day, just walk away. Learn to Start Saving a Little Each Month Start now saving small and slowly increase. The easiest way to start is to save all your coins and deposit every week into a savings account with no ATM card. This will help you form the habit of saving. Network For Your Future Career The number one money tip is to work on your network by taking internships and getting into various kinds of organizations as much as possible because the quickest way to get a job is all about who you know, and not totally dependent on your grades. This could make you a lot more money than opening up a credit card or a bank account.

We don't have beds in the spacecraft, but we do have sleeping bags. During the day, when we are working, we leave the bags tied to the wall, out of the way. At bedtime we untie them and take them wherever we've chosen to sleep. On most spacecraft flights everyone sleeps at the same time. No one has to stay awake to watch over the spacecraft; the craft's computers call us on the radio. On the spacecraft, sleep-time doesn't mean nighttime. During each ninety-minute orbit (轨道) the sun 'rises' and shines through our windows for about fifty minutes, then it 'sets' as the spacecraft takes us around the dark side of the Earth. To keep the sun out of our eyes, we wear black sleep masks. It is surprisingly easy to get comfortable and fall asleep in space. Every astronaut (宇航员) sleeps differently: Some sleep upside down, some sideways, and some right side up. When it's time to sleep, I take my bag, my sleep mask and my tape player with earphones and float (漂浮) up to the flight deck (驾驶舱). Then I get into the bag, and float in a sitting position just above a seat, right next to a window. Before I pull the mask down over my eyes, I relax for a while; listening to music and watching the Earth go by under me.
