Why worry about the English language? Well, it's true that English has been developing in scope and color and precision for centuries. It is rich and flexible. Part of the linguistic problem is that it's no easy task to select just the right word or phrase that will precisely convey your meaning. To command language requires many years of patient study and effort. Such effort should begin in the schools. Unfortunately, in most of our present educational institutions in North American, literacy skills are not stressed. Students can learn just about anything — except how to express themselves clearly and effectively.
