单选题Over the past years we offered advice to foreign students who want to attend an American college or university. Today we tell about a way to study through the International Students Exchange Program (ISEP) which was started in nineteen seventy-nine in the United States.
ISEP is a group of colleges and universities around the world. They cooperate to provide international educational experiences for their students. 260 schools in the United States and 35 in other countries are members of the program.
Students can study for up to one year in the United States or any of the other countries involved. They do not have to go through the usual application process to get into a school. And pay only what they would have to pay for a term at their own school at home.
To take part in the ISEP program, students must attend a member college or university. Each school has an ISEP coordinator who helps students apply to the ISEP office in Washington, D.C.
To be accepted, students must have good grades. They must also provide TOEFL scores. TOEFL is the Test of English as a Foreign Language. Students are asked to list up to ten choices of American schools they would like to attend.
ISEP officials say students should begin preparations at least one year before they want to experience the program. Applications must be sent to Washington by February of each year. The students accepted can then begin their year in the United States in September.

单选题 It is the vision (设想) of the Public Transit Police
Department to achieve a transit system free from crime and disorder. Transit
Police programs are designed to enhance safety, increase riders and preserve the
quality of our system's structure. Transit has its own police
force committed to the safety of its customers and drivers, serving seven
counties and 85 cities in the region. There are 23 full-time officers, 146
part-time officers and five administrative(行政的) staff, devoted to one thing:
public safety. You've probably seen Transit Police officers
patrolling(巡逻) bus routes in cars or on foot. During visits with drivers,
Transit Police either ride along or they step on board to greet drivers and
passengers. Sometimes officers patrol out of uniform--one could be on your next
bus. The fare inspectors on Hiawatha light-rail trains are Transit Police
officers. Every new Public Transit bus has an onboard security
camera. Videotapes from these cameras help Transit Police identify and charge
criminals. Downtown patrols built up in early 2002 have
improved the quality of life for downtown residents and transit customers. Ten
full-time police officers are assigned to the Minneapolis and St. Paul downtown
areas, to ensure public security. Downtown arrests have gone
from 490 in April-September 2001 to 941 during the same period in 2002.
