Cars are an important part of life in
the United States. Without a car most people feel that they are poor. And even
if a person is poor he doesn't feel really poor when he has a car.
There are three main reasons the car became so popular in the United
States. First of all, the country is a huge one and Americans like to move
around in it. The car provides the most comfortable and cheapest form of
transportation. With a car people can go any place without spending a lot of
money. The second reason why cars are popular is the fact that
the United States never really develops an efficient and inexpensive form of
public transportation. Long-distance trains have never been as common in the
United States as they are in other parts of the world. Nowadays there is a good
system of air service provided by plane. But it is too expensive to be used
frequently. The third reason is the most important one, though.
The American spirit of independence is what really made cars popular. Americans
don't like to wait for a bus, or a train or even a plane. They don't like to
have to follow an exact schedule. A car gives them the freedom to schedule their
own time. And this is the freedom that Americans want most to
have.
单选题As the Beatles represent the most important English contribution to rock in the 1960's, Bob Dylan is the most important American contributor. This is true in spite of the fact that he has never reached the top sale list of the record industry in the way of the Beatles have. Bob Dylan emerged from the popular folk movement during 1962 and 1963. His first two records, "Bob Dylan" and "the Freewheeling", appeared in those years and established his national reputation. This reputation grew slowly, and was helped by his appearance around New York City and at college concerts. As early as 1962, Bob Dylan became known for the quality and quantity of his song-writing. And Bob Dylan's material has reflected a social awareness and has always involved protest against injustice. It has aroused a broad trend of similar songs in the present-day market. These elements, in combination with Bob Dylan's particular sound, have made him one of the most remarkable figures in the history of rock.

单选题Beginning college life is exciting: new ideas to be explored, new challenges to be met and many decisions to be made. Your future begins here. however, you will find college life is different from your previous school environment. Many of us may have the know-how, I guess there are more of us who can benefit from learning about the experiences of others who have walked the college halls before you. The following you may find of use about life on campus. Plan well. There are so many new things to do at a new college or university. Give yourself time to make new friends and become familiar with the campus, but don't forget why you are there. Give some time for social activities and manage your time wisely. If you don't have a "system" for planning your time now (like a day timer, a computer date book), get one. Most of all, don't depend on your memory. Don't miss the guidelines. The restrictions, rules and regulations (规定) of all kinds can usually be found in your student handbook. Consider them well-balanced food for thought. What dates are important? What Pieces of paper need to be handed in? What can/can't you do in class? What can/can't you do in your student residence? Who has right for what? What do you need to complete the graduation? Write the word "STUDY" on the walls of your bedroom and bathroom, and maybe it will be helpful to write it on a piece of paper and stick it on the telephone, TV and the kitchen table. Consider this—you are paying thousands of dollars for your courses. You pay every time you have to repeat or replace a course. Build your identity, this is the time for you to decide what to do and what not to do. Take as much time as you need to explore new ideas. Do not be afraid of the beyond. This is learning to make good choices.
