Working at home in your nightclothes
while saving hundreds of dollars may sound too good to be true, but it isn't.
More and more employees are telecommuting, doing their job at home or another
remote site. "It's a trend that's here now and you're going to
see a lot more telecommuting because people don't have to put up with commuting
(来回上下班). They want more work/life balance, they want less stress in their lives
and companies want to drive costs after their bottom lines," says John Edwards,
President of the International Telework Association and Council.
However, Edwards says, "The biggest problem at the moment is dealing with
middle management who is uncomfortable with management style focusing on
results. They are used to the line of sight management style. But they have to
change to more results-oriented management style which can often be slightly
opposite, so they feel uncomfortable with that." Edwards says
telecommuting kills distance--and a lot of face to face meetings are replaced by
tele-conferences. "Distance does not exist anymore. It's the death of distance,
if you like. So now it's possible to have more invisible teams so that the
necessity to have the old bricks and walls existing is beginning to
disappear."

College is a place to explore many possibilities:you
really can't do it all—unless you manage your time wisely. Here are some tips I
have found very helpful for managing my time and maximizing my study efforts:
1.Determine your goals. What do you want to get out of a college
education? Academic(学术的)knowledge?Leadership experience within a
club?Decide what is most important to you. Then devote
proportionate(成比例的)amounts of time to those efforts.
2.Plan ahead. You may think you can keep everything in your head.but as the
activities on your schedule start piling up,making a schedule can really help
organize even little tasks. 3.Study at
strategic(关键的)times.Don't wait until you're falling asleep to
study.Study first.Save those e-mails to check later,because tasks that don't
require much energy and attention can still be done when you're tired.
4.Motivate(激励)yourself! You know that TV show you've
been dying to see,or that game of chess you've been waiting all week to
challenge your friend to.These and many other special activities can be used for
motivation.Promise yourself that you'll finish your biology assignment before
you go off and“play”.That way, you'll force yourself to work efficiently.(Don't
rush through the assignment,though.) 5.Take a nap.Sometimes
even a 20-minute nap in the afternoon will give you the extra energy you need to
get through the day.

单选题Competition with research in universities is very harmful to teaching. Therefore, it would be much more beneficial to teaching to develop a sound program of educational research. Such a program would improve teaching theory and technique. It would also make clear what competencies are required of a good teacher as well as help professors attain them. Educational research should be required to meet the same standards as scientific research, but it cannot be raised to those standards without comparable support and duty. Competent educational research is no more a part-time activity than competent scientific research. The relatively trivial (琐碎的) educational research so common in the universities is an inseparable result of trivial duties by the universities. Rather than look down upon such research, the professors have an obligation to see that it is upgraded. Let no one think that educational research is easy; it is concerned with no less than solving the complexities of the human mind. There is no reason to believe that an effective theory and technology of instruction is easier to achieve than controlled nuclear fusion. It is certainly every bit as worthy.
