单选题Country music is actually a very broad category of music, and includes a lot of different kinds of things. Among the things in common, first of all, is the voice of the singer. The way they speak is different, their accent is different from the other Americans from, let"s say New York or Los Angeles, Chicago or other big cities. So the voice of singer contributes to the feeling of country music. In addition, music itself is very different from many other forms of popular music. In terms of the instrumentation, country music uses some instrument that other types of music do not use. Of course they use guitar and also electric guitar and fiddles, which is very common in many forms of music. There are two other aspects that make country music different. The audience, the audience for country music are different from people who like pop music or rap, jazz or other types of music. They are from the rural areas, not from the cities. Country music discussed certain themes in the lyrics of music that are different from what you hear in popular music. There are basically eight themes of country music. Every country music you hear can be put into one of those eight categories. These categories are: love, and what people call "love gone by" in the other words "lose love"; humor, songs that are funny; then there are songs about partying; regional pride is pride in their city or town or state or the part of the country; and then there is the country life style, that"s No. 6; and very importantly there is the theme of family in country music; finally there is theme that people call God and country, which basically talks about the importance of God or religious beliefs, and also the deep love that many country singers have for their country, that"s the last category. Most people think the last three categories are rather unique for country music. Thinking back on all of the songs that we have heard and we have the collection of country music, most people would say that two biggest themes are probably love and family.

单选题If you didn't sleep for hours during the early part of the evening, you would be more ready to sleep at bedtime. If you didn't nap (打盹,小睡) after dinner, you would not want to stay up so late, and you would not feel the need to take a sleeping pill. The pill is still working in your system when you get up in the morning. This helps account for the fact that you feel tired all day. You should get out of the habit of sleeping during the evening. Right after your evening meal, engage in some sort of physical activity—a sport such as bowling, perhaps, or get together with friends for an evening of cards and conversation. Then go to bed at your usual time or a little earlier, and you should be able to get a good night's rest without taking a pill. If you can get into the habit of spending your evenings this way, I am sure you will feel less tired during the day. At first it may be hard for you to go to sleep without taking a pill. If so, get up and watch television or do some jobs around your house until you feel sleepy. If you fall asleep and then wake up a few hours later, get up but do not take a sleeping pill. Read a while or listen to the radio, and make yourself a few hours' sleep that night, you will feel better in the morning than you usually feel after taking a pill. The next night you will be ready to sleep at an earlier hour. The most important thing is to avoid taking that nap right after dinner and avoid taking pills.

单选题It's your worst nightmare: you arrive back home after work or a holiday to find that someone else has moved into your fiat or house. They play their music loudly on your recorder, sleep in your bed and make a terrible mess (脏乱). And they refuse to leave. This is what many people understand by the term "squatting". Since the 1970s, squatting has become relatively common in Britain. People (most of them young) who can't afford to rent a place to live in, occupy a building left empty by a private landlord or the local housing authority. At present, squatting in empty properties is illegal but it's not crime. Getting a squatter out of a property is a long procedure involving a court action. And while this is happening, the owner is not allowed to force his way into his own property. Now the British government is hoping to introduce a law which would make life more difficult for squatters. The proposed new law would allow courts to order squatters to leave a property within 24 hours. If they didn't they could be given a six-month prison sentence (and therefore a criminal record) or a fine of up to 5,000 pounds. It would also give police or the representatives of the courts—the bailiffs (法警)—more powers to break into property to force squatters to leave.

单选题The World Health Organization says as many as 10 million persons worldwide may have the virus (病毒) that causes AIDS. Experts believe about 350 thousand persons have the disease. And one million more may get it in the next five years. In the United States, about 50,000 persons have died with AIDS. The country's top medical official says more than 90 percent of all Americans who had the AIDS virus five years ago have been dead. There is no cure for AIDS and no vaccine (疫苗) medicine to prevent it. however, researchers know much more about AIDS than they did just a few years ago. We now know that AIDS is caused by a virus. The virus invades healthy cells including white blood cells that are part of our defense system against disease. It takes control of the healthy cell's genetic (遗传的)material and forces the cell to make a copy of the virus. The cell then dies. And the viral particles move on to invade and kill more healthy cells. The AIDS virus is carried in a person's body fluids. The virus can be passed sexually or by sharing instruments used to take intravenous (静脉内的) drugs. It also can be passed in blood products or from a pregnant woman with AIDS to her developing baby. Many stories about the spread of AIDS are false. You cannot get AIDS by working or attending school with someone who has the disease. You cannot get it by touching, drinking glasses or other objects used by such persons. Experts say no one has gotten AIDS by living with, caring for or touching an AIDS patient. There are several warning signs of an AIDS infection. They always include feeling tired, unexplained weight loss and uncontrolled expulsion of body wastes (大小便失禁). Other warning are the appearance of white areas on the mouth, dark red areas of skin that do not disappear and a higher than normal body temperature.
