The Internet, unlike other media such as TV or radio,is inherently(本身固有地) a“two—way”medium.A company user can communicate to the rest of the world with ease.It has created a sense of“global community”that’s found almost nowhere else.People around the world post web sites, exchange e—mail, and participate in on-line chats.Going on—line means not just surfing the Web and reading e—mail. It means getting involved in the whole Net community.

Do you know how to use a mobile phone without being rude to the people around you? Talking during a performance irritates (激怒) people. If you are expecting an emergency call, sit near the exit doors and set your phone to vibrate (振动). When your mobile phone vibrates, you can leave quietly and let the others enjoy the performance. Think twice before using mobile phones in elevators, museums, churches or other indoor public places— especially enclosed spaces. Would you want to listen to someone's conversation in these places? Worse yet, how would you feel if a mobile phone rang suddenly during a funeral? It happens more often than you think. Avoid these embarrassing situations by making sure your mobile phone is switched off. When eating at a restaurant with friends, don't place your mobile phone on the table. This conveys the message that your phone calls are more important than those around you. Mobile phones have sensitive microphones that allow you to speak at the volume you would on a regular phone. This enables you to speak quietly so that others won't hear the details of your conversations. If you are calling from a noisy area, use your hand to direct your voice into the microphone. Many people believe that they can't live without their mobile phones. Owning a mobile phone definitely makes life more convenient, but limit your conversations to urgent ones and save the personal calls until you are at home.

When you open your electronic mail, you may find information about how to buy medicine, cheap airline tickets, books, computer products, and so on. There may also be offers for investment deals, bank loans and special holidays. However, to many computer users, this use of electronic spam to sell products has become a major problem as it makes computer communication more difficult. Many companies that want to send a great deal of advertising at the same time might use the services of a "spammer". A spammer is a person or company that uses computers to send out millions of copies of the same sales information. Spammers get people's e-mail addresses from websites, news groups and "chat rooms" where people send messages to each other. Most spam is sent by companies that are trying to get you to buy their products. Some of these are honest companies that may offer good products or services for fair prices. These companies can offer their products for a cheaper price than you might find in a store. However, much of the spam on the Internet is sent by criminals(罪犯) who are trying to sell products that do not exist or offer services they will not provide at all. What they are only interested in is stealing your money. When you answer their spam you find you are expected to send them money and receive a gift. If you just follow what they ask you to do without any consideration, it is likely that you will be cheated and lose some money.

Twenty years ago, kids in school had never even heard of the internet. Now, I'll bet you can't find a single person in your school who hasn't at least heard of it. In fact, many of us use it on a regular basis and even have access to it from our homes! The "net" in internet really stands for network. A network is two or more computers connected together so that information can be shared, or sent from one computer to another. The internet is a vast resource for all types of information. You may enjoy using it to do research for a school project, downloading your favorite songs or communicating with friends and family. Information is accessed through web pages that companies, organizations and individuals create and post. It's kind of like a giant bulletin(告示)board that the whole world uses! But since anyone can put anything on the internet, you also have to be careful and use your best judgment and a little common sense. Just because you read something on a piece of paper someone sticks on a bulletin board doesn't mean it's good information, or even correct, for that matter. So you have to be sure that whoever posted the information knows what they're talking about, especially if you're doing research! But What if you're just e-mailing people? You still have to be very careful. If you've never met the person that you're communicating with online, you could be on dangerous ground! You should never give out any personal information to someone you don't know, not even your name! And just like you can't believe the information on every website out there, you can't rely on what strangers you "meet" on the internet tell you either. Just like you could make up things about yourself to tell someone, someone else could do the same to you! Questions:

India is the world's biggest gold consumer, but the country's passion for the yellow metal is waning(逐渐减弱). Record high prices and the recent economic recession have taken away some of the glitter of gold. The country's passion for gold is rooted in culture and custom. Gold ornaments(装饰品) are a traditional wedding present to brides and a gift of the precious metal during their religious festivals means good fortune. It is a traditional gift on other important occasions, such as the birth of a child. But shop owners say now they only see "essential customers"—those who have to buy for the marriage of a son or a daughter. Even these buyers are scaling back on purchases. Some are passing on traditional hereditary(遗传的) treasures, instead of buying new gold. Others are cutting back on the quantity of gold they buy and opting for ornaments of lesser weight. Gold is getting hit not just by the surging prices. In the big cities, the attraction of the precious metal is waning, as trends change. The new status symbol of the country's wealthy class is no longer jewelry, but expensive mobile phones, iPods or designer labels. However, in a country where the love of gold dates back centuries, jewelry shop owners say they will wait patiently for sales to pick up. As has happened many times in the past, they are hoping that customers will flock back, once they get accustomed to the higher prices.
