单选题People in some countries cannot use their native language for Web addresses. Neither can Chinese speakers, who have to rely on pinyin. But last Friday, ICANN, the Web"s governing body, approved the use of up to 16 languages for the new system. More will follow in the coming years. The Internet is about to start using the 16 languages of the world. People will soon be able to use addresses in characters (字符) other than those of the Roman alphaber (字母表). The change will also allow the suffix (后缀) to be expressed in 16 other alphabets, including traditional and simplified Chinese characters. But there are still some problems to work out. Experts have discussed what to do with characters that have several different meanings. This is particularly true of Chinese. Most experts doubt the change will have a major effect on how the Internet it used. "There will be some competition between companies to obtain popular words for addresses."

单选题{{B}}Task 1{{/B}}{{B}}Directions:{{/B}} {{I}}After reading the following passage, you will find 5 questions or unfinished statements, numbered 36 through 40. For each question or statement there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.{{/I}} Trees are useful to man in three very important ways: they supply him with wood and other products; they give him shade; and they help to prevent droughts and floods. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, man has not realized that the third of these services is the most important. In his eagerness to draw quick profit from the trees. He has cut them down in large numbers, only to find that without them he has lost the best friends he had. 2000 years ago a rich and powerful country cut down its trees to build warships, with which to gain itself an empire. It gained the empire but, without its trees, its soil became hard and poor. When the empire fell to pieces, the home country found itself faced floods and starvation. Even if a government realizes the importance of adequate supply of trees, it is difficult for it to persuade the villager to see this. The villager wants wood to cook his food with; and he can earn money by producing charcoal or selling wood to the townsman. He is usually too lazy or too careless to plant and take care of new trees. So, unless the government has a good control system, or can educate the people, the forests will slowly disappear. This does not only mean that the villager's sons and grandsons have fewer trees. The results are even more serious: for where there are trees their roots break the soil up--allowing the rain to sink in--and also bind the soil, thus preventing its being washed away easily but where there are no trees, the rain falls on hard ground and flows away from the surface, causing floods and carrying away the rich topsoil, in which crops grow so well. When all the topsoil is gone, nothing remains but a useless desert.

单选题Prehistoric men and women enjoyed a more varied diet than people do now, since they ate species of plant and several hundreds thousands types of living things. But only a tiny percentage of these were ever domesticated. Modern shops have hastened, a trend towards specialization which began in the earliest days of agriculture. The food of the rich countries has become cheaper relative to wages. It is speedily distributed in supermarkets. But the choice annually becomes less and less great. Even individual foods themselves become more standardized. We live in the world of carrot specially blunted in order to avoid making a hole in the bag, and the tomato grown to meet a demand for a standard weight of weighting tomatoes to a kilo. Sift yon Reis asks:" Only the three major cereals(谷物类食物) and perhaps ten other widely cultivated species stand between famine and survival for the world"s human population and a handful of drug plants has served Western civilization for several thousand years. A rather obvious question arises: Are we missing something?" After all, there are 800 000 species of plant on earth.
