问答题4. Some famous athletes and entertainers earn millions of dollars every year. Do you think these people deserve such high salaries? The following are the opinions from different people. Read the excerpts carefully and write your response in about 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the opinions from different sides; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. A famous athlete From my own point of view, I think I deserve high incomes. In my area, I try my best to have the best performance. I sacrifice so much time and efforts to achieve the goal. Compared with normal careers, we are confronted with a bigger stage. We suffer more pressure. We exercise repeatedly to perform well. In fact, the effort we make is totally beyond common people's imagination. So we deserve high incomes. A famous entertainer Many people have the illusion that we are happier than normal people. In fact, our daily activities are limited. There is less freedom for us. Paparazzi follow us nearly everywhere. Our privacy is exposed to the public. The high income, to some extent, can make up for all that we have lost. We really deserve it. A worried mum I don't think athletes and entertainers deserve high incomes. The high income may raise serious concerns of social inequality. This inequality in income does not have a positive influence on the young generation. My child thinks he can earn that much money as an athlete or an entertainer, so he goes after that. As a result, he doesn't want to do anything other than to be an athlete or an entertainer. What's more, this phenomenon has an important impact on my child's values. Athletes and entertainers get money in a relatively easy way, so he thinks there is a shortcut to success, although I have always been trying to assure him that no one can expect success without working hard. A college student Many people consider that the majority of famous entertainers and athletes are overpaid. From my point of view, those people deserve their high salaries. Firstly, entertainers and athletes have to make much effort. Athletes have to take time-consuming training all day long. They have to give up time with their family. Famous people must undergo the intense scrutiny of the media, television and newspapers. They should constantly be careful of what they say or do in public. This is really a difficult lifestyle to lead. What's more, athletes have to face the risk of major injury. We often hear such news about some famous players who got hurt in the competition. There are so many similar cases. Secondly, I think most of us have an idol in our heart. I can get inspiration and motivation from these athletes. I can get impetus on how to work, how to set high goals and how to cope with failure.

问答题1. Should high school seniors take a gap year before they go to universities? Gap Years originally started in the United Kingdom in the 1970's as a way to fill the 7- or 8-month gap between final exams and the beginning of university. Much opinion exists about the merits—or otherwise—of taking time out after completing school. The following is an article about this issue. Read it carefully and write your response in about 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the author's opinion on the issue; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. While your friends sit through lecture this fall, you could be promoting HIV/AIDS awareness in Vietnam, learning Spanish in Peru, or interning in New York City. How? By taking a gap year. Taking time off before college is a major decision, so let us help you decide if this road less traveled is right for you. What is a gap year, exactly? "Gap time" is a year or semester students take off before enrolling in college. Gapers typically work to save money, volunteer, intern, or study a language abroad. Most students elect this time off because they don't feel prepared for college or they're looking for more life experience first. According to Jason Sarouhan, a counselor at Center for Interim Programs, gap years enable young people to gain more independence and self-empowerment. "The time between high school and college offers the natural opportunity to take a break and to recalibrate one's focus and centeredness," he says, adding that young people can benefit from structured time away from school or work. Why consider taking a gap year? Gap time is meant to revitalize your mind—to avoid the burnout that can accompany immediately taking on more intense coursework. Robin Pendoley, the Co-Founder and CEO of the gap year program Thinking Beyond Borders, says that gap-year students gain experience that helps them connect ideas in college—they're able to better put everything they'll be studying in context. How should you expect to grow during your gap year? "A well-designed gap year helps students find direction, purpose, and passion for their learning," said Pendoley. "They can return to school with a clear understanding of the opportunity it represents to become an expert in an area the student is truly passionate about and committed to.Can you afford to take a gap year? If you choose to work full-time at home during your gap year, you probably won't need to worry about expenses. Even if you choose to go abroad, gap year programs typically cost far less than one year of university tuition. Though prices may range from $10,000 to $15,000 for a full year program designed by a gap year organization, less costly programs are available. Keep in mind that it's possible to travel and work during your gap year in order to save money for your college years.Taking a gap year is an untraditional path. How do you tune out the naysayers? Although skewing from the traditional path from high school to college isn't the norm, the research reveals that as many as 30% of college students failing to graduate and the average length of an undergraduate career over 5 years, any investment we make to help students gain the sense of direction and purpose they need in college is a good thing.

问答题1. 题目要求:Singles' Day has been hailed as another victory by modern society in terms of commercialism. Businessmen view it as a gold mine for money-digging while the netizens sing high praise for the conveniences it brings us. How should we view this newly man-made festival? Read the excerpt carefully and write your response in about 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the author's opinion; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Let's not Discount Human Touch Next Nov. 11 I had a punishing day's shopping recently. In less than an hour, I bought 12 liter-cartons of milk, the same number of boxes of breakfast cereal, 10 hairy crabs, a dozen pairs of socks, and a replacement laptop power cable. The next day it was all delivered straight to my door, neatly packed and alive. Welcome to China's most efficient and expanding industry: Online shopping. When I left Edinburgh, the above list might have meant a whole weekend of much blood, sweat and irritation. In Beijing, however, the opposites apply. I am embarrassed to say, my list was all bought sitting in bed. This is the ultimate in modern convenience and a gold mine for the delivery and retail sectors. But I can't help thinking it's becoming a killer for society. Retailers across China will no doubt be toasting another bumper Nov. 11 shopping festival. Alibaba reported that about 91.2 billion yuan was spent on Nov. 11. That was 60 percent higher than the 57.1 billion yuan it took on Nov. 11 last year. In my view, festivals are about mingling with happy people, listening to music, enjoying each other's company. They're not about sitting boggled in front of a PC, laptop, tablet or mobile, essentially spending for the sake of spending. In just five years, Nov. 11 has become commercialism on a vulgar scale—much like Christmas has in the West. In Edinburgh, I lived in Stockbridge. There's a 40-year-old cheese shop, a delicatessen, a hardware store, a stationer, two small supermarkets, a butcher, a fresh-fish shop, even a chocolatier: All within striking distance of each other. At the weekend, families stroll about with armfuls of real shopping bags, having conversations with real neighbors, actually interacting with their fellow Edinburgers. I fully appreciate not everyone has this luxury of such quirky shop windows on their doorsteps. Being able to source thousands of online goods, conveniently from home is amazing and impressive. But have we all become just too used to clicking a mouse than using our own two feet to go out for a nice piece of old-fashioned retail therapy? I feel we've already got to the point that choosing this rather slothful keyboard opinion is a breeding ground for a more sedentary and unsociable society. What about actual shops? Already, millions are being shuttered around the world. And those that do survive may very well be run by artificially intelligent shop assistant applications or robots—not much chat over the counter in those. Indoors, too, all-purpose robots are already doing the housework. Sensors in future could also obviate other chores, with your fridge and cupboards programmed to place orders for you. I would rather like not having my life ruled by electronics—especially those I can't look in the eye, or say hello to. So, instead of Nov. 11, how about "Get Off Your Posterior, and Go and Do Something for Yourself" Day?
问答题5. Many middle-aged and elderly women are often seen participating the public square dancing, in an effort to exercise and socialize with peers. But nearby residents are losing their temper for the noise. How do you think of public square dancing? Read the following excerpts carefully and write your response in about 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the different opinions; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Square dancing participants A retiree told the Los Angeles Times: It's good for my health to be able to come out and exercise. I used to be quick to lose my temper, but now nothing bothers me. When I dance, I forget all my cares. And I can also hike up mountains with little effort. Wang Xin, a 50-year-old Beijinger: It's an activity that can help people socialize and gain confidence. Maybe you don't have many dancing skills or the confidence to dance in front of the public, but you can still enjoy it. Yang Hu: My mother is a fan of square dancing. She dances about one hour with her friends after dinner every day. I see nothing wrong with square dancing. After all, there are very few entertainment activities for middle-aged and elderly people. Nearby residents A resident surnamed Wang: I think there should be some public education, telling residents how to do things in a proper way to protect other people's living environment. Everyone has the responsibility to reduce noise pollution. A man surnamed Shi: I just wanted some sleep and I shouted loudly because I was so angry about the annoying noise. I think the square dancing is a good activity but the music they play is always too loud to tolerate. One netizen: I think it's OK to dance in a park but not in a community. I feel lucky because the elderly in my community have their schedules. They dance for 30 minutes from 20:00 to 20:30. I can handle it. Some complain about people dancing in residential areas, and some complain about salesgirls who dance in front of their shops every morning. A young father: It's in my face, in my ears, and in fact, it fight bang in my home. I have an infant daughter, only four months old. I don't know how to get her to sleep with the noise. I fear that the first words she will speak are the saccharine lyrics that waft daily through the windows. The official A staff member from a residential committee office in Beijing's Chaoyang District: There are many complaints about the noise of public square dancing. Sometimes we get over 10 complaints from our residents during summer. Because in summer it's very hot and people want to open their windows to be cool. The loud music is more difficult to tolerate than that in winter.

问答题1. People have different ways of escaping the stress and difficulties of modem life. Some read; some exercise; others work in their gardens. The following are the opinions from different people. What do you think are the best ways of reducing stress? Read the excerpts carefully and write your response in about 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the opinions from different sides; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. A common white-collar employee In order to live a happy life, I think it's important for all of us to find a way to relieve stress. As for me, I feel better when spending time with my parents or friends if I feel stressed. In the past, I preferred to stay alone when I was stressed out. But I continued to dwell on my problems. The problems couldn't be solved and I didn't feel better. However, later I tried to spend time with my family or friends and it helped me forget my worries. Moreover I could point out my problems and my family or friends can give me some helpful advice, because they were more objective and could give suggestions from their experiences. Even though sometimes they can't understand my problems, simply talking about them makes me feel better. A manager from a small company Stress is one of our biggest enemies. It affects our health and mood. In order to get rid of stress, I accepted advice from a colleague of mine. She advised me to meditate. It really worked. Every day, I spent a few minutes meditating. It's simple. Sit up straight with both feet on the floor. Close eyes and focus your attention on reciting loud or silently some positive words, such as "I am happy", "I can solve the problem", "I love myself". Then place one hand on the belly to feel the breaths. By meditating I feel myself in fine fettle and full of vigor. A high school student As a teenager, I have a lot on my mind. Homework and pressure from my classmates and upcoming exams can all be the sources of stress. I think stress is often produced by trying to please others, such as parents and teachers. Now I've learnt to relieve stress through following methods. No. 1: get out more often. I often do some outdoor activities, such as swimming, playing soccer and tennis. Exercise boosts my mood naturally as well as relieves pain. Moreover sunlight is important for the intestinal absorption of vitamin D. No. 2: take good care of myself physically. I used to thrive on junk food and take only a few hours of sleep each night. Over time, such poor habits had a huge influence on my health. Then I decided to get rid of these bad habits. Now I get at least 8 consecutive hours of sleep each night and try to eat fruits and vegetables every day. A common housewife Stress is everywhere. I have some simple ways to get rid of stress. First, I will take a deep breath or two to release the feeling of stress, because when stressed, we tend to breathe in short and rapid breaths. It evens out my breathing and helps me return to a calm state. Second, I will think of good things to lower my immediate stress. It makes me distract from the worries. Think of how deeply I am loved, how wonderful my husband is, a great vacation I went on, how pretty the beach is. Simple pleasures produce a simple smile.
