问答题1. 题目要求:In most cultures it is traditional for a man to propose marriage on a bended knee, with a diamond ring. As a woman's proposal is often considered inappropriate and unacceptable, do you think it is okay for women to propose marriage? The following are opinions from two sides. Read the excerpts carefully and write your response in about 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the opinions from two sides; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Men Britny (the UK): A man should take the initiative to propose marriage. Generally speaking, after being in a relationship for some time, most (not all) men have their mind on marriage. If he hasn't proposed after a while, maybe his mind isn't on it. LAAD Gunner-USMC (the US): I wouldn't like it. There's nothing wrong with it but I think it would be kind of awkward. I mean it would be flattering, but it really steals a major moment in a man's life. But I'm not every guy. BlondeAmber (Ireland): Too often, TV and movies promote an "ideal" romance that many women mistake for how the reality should be: that girls should "wait" to be swept off their feet by a "white knight". The reality is that if you are in a secure and respectful relationship, whichever partner proposes marriage is unimportant. A real man would not be threatened by a confident woman. Should a woman propose? Why not? If a man can accept her for her accomplishments and skills, he should be man enough to accept a marriage proposal. Teamkrejados (Australia): If women want to be equal in society, it should not be men's exclusive role to propose marriage, provide a house, a car and money that the relationship needs to get parental and societal approval. Now that women are allowed to have careers and buy property there is no reason for men to have so much pressure. Women Celina (China): I would never propose to a guy because it not only shows my insecurity but exposes my desperation. Times have changed, but there are some issues that are definitely not up for compromise. To make it worse, if a woman is ever forced to go down on one knee then the guy doesn't deserve her. CarolleRain (France): I don't take this question as some kind of social power issue. It's just a personal choice. It is true in most Asian countries that men are the ones who should propose and it is deeply rooted in Asian culture. Nowadays, some girls propose. It is nothing to do with social power; it is just their personal choice. If one day I meet a shy guy, maybe I will be the one who proposes and vice versa. Melissa (Canada): I don't feel there's anything wrong with a woman proposing to a man. It doesn't mean you're desperate. When a man proposes to a woman, does that mean he's desperate too? What if he's ready and the woman isn't? He's waiting for her. Women want a confident, strong man that can take charge. But men also want a woman who is confident, self-sufficient and knows what she wants from life. So my thing is, proposing is not one's responsibility anymore. Sarah (Australia): I actually proposed to my man. I am truly in love with him and would like to spend the rest of my life with him. Yes, we talked about marriage but didn't know if or when we should ask the question. I waited for our first anniversary as a couple to propose. Yes, I hear it from my father because he is an old school but all I can say is tell him a female has rights just as many as a male has. I love him and that's all that matter. Just hope everything work out for the best.

问答题1. Do the benefits of study abroad justify the difficulties? The idea of going overseas for university study is an exciting prospect for many people. But students may encounter difficulties in living and studying in a different culture, and now the overseas experiences may not guarantee the graduates good jobs. The following articles are about this issue. Read them carefully and write your response in about 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly both articles; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.Passage A Majority or 60.6 percent of Chinese students study abroad to obtain a diploma from foreign schools and improve their social status, according to a recent online survey conducted by China Youth Daily. The survey indicated some factors that drive students to study abroad. At least 46.5 percent said that Chinese students view overseas education as a way to gain advantages in employment, while only 42.8 percent said they study abroad to get a better education. Other factors were also cited in the survey, in which 38.5 percent said that overseas education serves as an eye-opener, 29 percent did it to seek independence from parents, and 28.4 percent said studying abroad helps them avoid the pressures of China's examination. Another 22.8 percent said they simply study abroad without any clear goals. Most of the respondents believe that "diploma mills" exists globally, whose major characteristics include low entry thresholds (64 percent), selling diplomas for money (60.9 percent) and diplomas not publicly recognized (48.9 percent). The survey further indicated that 57.9 percent of respondents said those who fall victim to "diploma mills" usually just want to study abroad to improve their social status and cared very little about what they learn; 53.2 percent said both students and parents find it hard to get reliable knowledge about the qualifications offered at foreign universities; 42.7 percent said some people simply prefer foreign education and related diplomas; 38.6 percent said they cannot tell whether a university is a "diploma mill" or not; and 23.4 percent said Chinese authorities have failed to provide timely and accurate information to warn them of foreign "diploma mills."Passage B Graduating from a university abroad does not necessarily guarantee a satisfactory job in China, according to a study-abroad agency consultant. Chinese students pursue education in other countries either to cover up deficiencies in their studies or to receive a better quality of education, consultant Liu explained. Although obtaining an overseas diploma is an asset, Chinese graduates with low academic performance may not be able to take advantage of their overseas diplomas when looking for a job in China. A human resources department supervisor in a private company in Tianjin explained that local and overseas graduates are treated equally "as long as their abilities are satisfactory." Further, Chinese consulting company employee Xiao Yu said that what Chinese employers care more about is "whether you are competent in your job, rather than your overseas experience." From 1978 until now, approximately 2.64 million Chinese students chose to study abroad, and 90 percent of them paid for their own education costs. From 2009 to this year, there were about 800,000 Chinese students who returned from overseas, which is three times higher than the number of returning students three decades ago.

问答题4. 题目要求:A resignation letter by a middle school teacher who wrote, "the world is so big that I want to have a look", has fueled online debate. If you had a decent job, would you quit it to travel? Why or why not? The following are opinions from different sides. Read the excerpts carefully and write your response in about 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the different opinions; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Christine (China) I must confess I love to travel a lot, but it's going to be insane if I quit my job just to travel. When I am back from having fun I am afraid there will be no work to do. Still, it's a difficult decision and each one of us has to weigh it. Joji (the US) I love to travel and have been to many European countries. I am now concentrating on local travel here in the US. I have many co-workers who have never ventured out of the US, even to Canada! I tell them not to wait until retirement as it might be too late. They tell me that they are tied down because of all the debts and mortgage. I say if there's a will, there's a way. Cory (Portugal) I find it really brave to let it all go and one day decide: Yep, that's it. I'm quitting my job and I'm going to travel around the world. It's quite a cultural thing as well. For instance, I've seen a couple of colleagues doing that here in the UK, whereas I don't know anyone in Portugal who would ever do that. We plan for the future, to save for the time when we grow older or to save for our kids. So unless you are rich, we would struggle to follow our dreams. But I do agree that life is too short, and I have no clue what happens tomorrow, so I'm trying to slow down in terms of work and travel here and there. Linda (China) I've recently been thinking about quitting my job and traveling around the world for a year. And then, who knows what after that? Even though I love the company I work for, my passion is traveling (among other things) and experiencing new things! Cnee (China) I've thought about quitting my job and traveling around the world to learn more about myself and what I want to do with my life. But my morn believes that it is a bad idea because she thinks that I work for a great company and I should just stick to it and wait for a promotion. Currently, I am not married and have no kids. I still live with my mom and I am in my 20s. I feel like it's a good time to travel. But I am also told that it is a good time to build my career. Emma (Canada) I spent four months traveling through South America, followed by four months in Southeast Asia. I'm home for a few weeks until the next leg of the journey. Whether I know what's round the comer, how my career will end up, what future employers will think, one thing is for sure: I don't regret the decision at all. The type of experience you get is so unique and will shape your ideas and perspectives on how you see yourself and the world. It influences the path you choose to take in a way that cements your happiness.
