问答题1. The following two excerpts are about bike-sharing, which has become a runaway success in China in the past two years. From the excerpts, you can find that the success of bike-sharing also causes some public headaches in the meantime. Write an article of NO LESS THAN 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize the advantages and disadvantages of bike-sharing, and then 2. express your opinion towards the service, especially on how to solve the challenges that it is facing. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Excerpt 1 Sharing Puts Bikes Back on the Street A survey of about 100,000 residents in 36 cities reported a 55 percent decline in their trips by car and a 53 percent increase in their trips via unlicensed motorcycles after they started using shared bikes. Wang Peng, deputy chief engineer of the innovation center for technology at Tsinghua Tongheng, said that since the debut of shared bikes, people have made less trips by car. "Previously, trips made by cars accounted for 29.8 percent of the total trips inside the city, while only 5.5 percent of trips were made by bike. Following the booming bike-sharing trend, the proportion of trips by car dropped to 26.6 percent and the proportion of bike rides doubled to 11.6 percent (both privately owned and shared bikes)." Experts said the bike-sharing sector will help improve the overall urban environment. "The emerging bike-sharing boom not only alleviates the traffic congestion in cities, but also helps to make more effective use of urban space," Wang said. "Taking Beijing as an example, the parking space for a normal-sized car can fit 10 bikes. If more people choose shared bikes, an area equivalent to the size of five Bird's Nest stadiums would be saved." Excerpt 2 Massive Success of Shared Bikes Causes Equally Massive Headaches Located east of Beijing's Guomao area, commuters to the Bawangfen East bus station have widely adopted the use of shared bikes. However, the traffic of shared bikes coming into the station greatly outnumbers the flow heading out. After a year of bike-sharing, the steady accumulation of shared bikes at the station has gotten so severe that it is impacting bus service. Compounding the situation is the traffic barrier extending from the adjoining Dawanglu Station. As parking for shared bikes continues to rise, the available space for buses and even pedestrians withers away, packing them both into increasingly confined quarters. Mr. Yan, a driver for the local Route 815 bus, said "shared bicycles have adversely affected the safe operation of busses". "Originally there were two exits available for busses, but now there is only one due to the invasion of shared bikes," said Yan. Mrs. Su, an elderly volunteer who works at the busy transportation hub that links commuters with the far-off eastern Beijing suburbs of Tongzhou and Yanjiao, said the situation "has already become a disaster". The problem is worse at night when volunteers like Su aren't around to move around improperly parked bicycles.

问答题2. Since the foundation of the Capital Library Alliance in Beijing, 34 university libraries, including libraries of the prestigious Peking University and Tsinghua University, will be gradually open to the public. Some applaud the decision while others express their worries. The followings are opinions on whether university libraries should be open to the public. Read them carefully and write an article of NO LESS THAN 300 words, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the arguments on both sides; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Write your article on ANSWER SHEET FOUR. Zheng Xinrong (Beijing Morning Post): If resources in university libraries are not fully utilized, it will be a big waste. Some people worry that free entry to these libraries will lead to overcrowded libraries on campus, but this is not certain. Maybe not a single outsider would visit University libraries. Nowadays, fewer and fewer people in China are interested in reading books. For example, you can always see many people playing games on their cellphones, instead of reading. Thus, opening university libraries to the public is actually a way to encourage more people to pick up books. Generally speaking, outside readers usually choose libraries near their home and seldom go to a distant university library unless they have special need. Based on this fact, I believe university libraries will not necessarily become overcrowded even if they offer free access. Mostly, the beneficiaries of the free entry policy will be nearby residents. Libraries should first meet students' and teachers' demand for books. If a book is already preordered by some student or teacher, it should not be lent to outsiders. Books that are not borrowed frequently by students and teachers should be brought into circulation. Doors can be closed to outsiders during the period when students are preparing for exams. Xiong Bingqi (The Beijing News): It's great for university libraries to offer free entry to the public. But at the same time, it will make the management work more difficult and the limited book and space resources in university libraries might be further squeezed. Only depending on universities and the government will not ensure the sustainable development of the free entry policy. Therefore, it's necessary to absorb some social institutions and welfare organizations. For example, it's a good idea to set up a community club that brings together resources of nearby universities and even middle schools. Local residents can use these resources as long as they pay a small sum of money to be members of this club. Community residents should also have the opportunity to serve as volunteers in university libraries. Gao Dali (www.enorth.com.cn): To offer the public free entry into university libraries is now a mainstream idea. The question now is how to realize the openness. Nowadays, libraries' resources are kept in the form of databases. The traditional way of borrowing and lending books needs manpower and capital input. I think the most effective way is to open these databases to the public. Jia Ximing (www.enorth.com.cn): Although universities' opening their libraries to the public is a trend, the target readers of these libraries are students and teachers on the campus. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Xi'an University in Shaanxi Province once adopted the practice of opening to the public and even tried very hard to persuade nearby residents to come to read. But the practice was later suspended, because the library was unable to meet readers' demands as the university's books were mostly prepared for teaching and academic research. In addition, the library was unable to receive too many visits. After all, school library's priority is to meet students' and teachers' demand and ensure the order of campus.

问答题1. After the ban on university students getting married was lifted in 2005, it seems more and more college students choose to get married while they are still in school, and the phenomenon has attracted lots of attention. From the excerpts, you can find that some advocate it while some express their concern. Write an article of NO LESS THAN 300 WORDS, in which you should: 1. summarize briefly the different opinions; 2. give your comment. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Excerpt 1 Freedom to Marry China's Ministry of Education lifted the ban on college students getting married years ago. Currently students of legal age no longer have to ask for permission from their universities when they plan to tie the knot. Fan, who graduated from Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology last year, said she was lucky to have been studying at a time when the ban was lifted. "Otherwise, I would have had to make a choice between marriage and study." She met her future husband when she was studying at the university. She said that when she got married she did not have any trouble with her university. "I just have to hand in my applications. I told my teachers and classmates I was getting married and all of them wished me a happy marriage." Lao Kaisheng, director-general of the National Research Society of Education Policies and Laws, welcomed the cancellation of the restriction. "It had infringed the civil rights of undergraduates who should have enjoyed the same freedom to marry as other Chinese citizens after reaching the legal age," said Lao, who is also a professor at Capital Normal University in Beijing. "It's good to see that the Ministry of Education canceled the restriction and made student management regulations at universities comply with the law," he said. Excerpt 2 Multiple Challenges University couples who marry may face a wide range of challenges, from setting a common goal for life to learning how to understand and tolerate each other. This calls for young couples to address the situation with skill and wisdom, according to Zhou, a Chongqing resident, who asked to be identified as Xiao—her surname. "But young undergraduates are immature and lack enough experience to handle such issues, which may lead to a marriage crisis or even divorce," she said. Her university marriage failed for this reason. The 21-year-old girl married a man two years older than her in 2009, when she was a junior student at a university in Chongqing. "He was a cousin of my roommate at the university," she said. "He treated me well and took good care of me. I was moved, and agreed to marry him." But the marriage lasted for just six months. At the beginning of the fourth year at university, the woman ended the unhappy union, saying it resulted from the pressure imposed by her husband. "He would make repeated telephone calls to me when I hung out with friends to ensure that I was not with a man. We quarreled a lot over this," Xiao said, adding that her former husband had not behaved like this before they married. Because of her experience, Xiao has a negative view of undergraduates marrying while at college, saying, "As undergraduates, they are too young to understand marriage."
