Many teenagers(青少年) feel that the most
important people in their lives are their friends. They believe that their
family members don' t know them as well as their friends do. In large families,
it is quite often for brothers and sisters to fight with each other and then
they can only go to their friends for some ideas. It is very
important for teenagers to have one good friend or a group of friends. Even when
they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking among
themselves on the phone. This communication(交际) is very important in children' s
growing up, because friends can discuss (讨论)something. These things are
difficult to say to their family members. However, parents often
try to choose their children' s friends for them. Some parents may even stop
their children from meeting their good friends. Have you ever thought of the
following questions: Who do you choose as your
friends? Do you choose your friends or your friends choose
you? Have you got a good friend your parents don' t
like? Your answers are welcome.

Building, the newest building ha Sao Paulo, was destroyed in a big fire. The
fire was started on the 11th floor. Soon the whole floor was on fare. There were
25 floors in the building. As it had no fire escapes (消防梯), 300 people were
trapped (围困) in the fire and they could not escape. Many of them climbed to the
roof of the building. The helicopters (直升机) came, but there was such thick smoke
that the helicopters could not get close enough. At last about 70 people were

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a
man healthy, wealthy (富有的) and wise (聪明的). This is an old
English saying. Have you ever heard it before? It means that we must go to
bed early and get up early in the morning. Then we shall be healthy, and we
shall also be rich and clever. This is true. The body must have enough sleep to
be healthy. Children at young ages should have ten hours' sleep every night.
Children who do not have enough sleep can not do their work very well. They will
not be clever and they may not become rich. The body also needs
exercise. Walking, running, jumping, swimming and playing games are all
exercise. Exercise keeps the body strong. Exercise also helps the blood (血液) to
move around inside the body. This is very important. Our blood takes food to all
parts of our body. The head also needs blood. Exercise helps us to think
better.

Ms. Blunsden is a 38-year-old woman who
lives by herself in Brooklyn, New York. She has no right to keep any animals
now. A police officer told a Brooklyn court (法庭) that he had found 15 dogs and
20 cats living in a small room which was just 10 feet by 12 feet. "There was not
enough place for one animal, let alone 35," he said. "The room was very
dirty." "The animals are taken good care of," Ms. Blunsden told
the court. "I take them all for walks in a shopping cart (购物车)." When the court
asked Ms. Blunsden why she kept so many animals, she said, "Everybody loves
animals and I do, too. You may think that my room is too small for so many
animals, but I think it is just right." The court ordered the
animals to be taken to a place where they could be taken good care of. The court
also ordered Ms. Blunsden to get help from Dr. Eugene Wilson, whose clinic (诊所)
is well-known for taking care of such cases. People are
beginning to keep many animals, and Ms. Blunsden's case will not be the only one
of its kind.
