单选题Stage plays, at first, seem a lot like films. Both use actors and dialogue and scenery. But if you try to make a film by setting up a camera in front of the stage, you will find it won’t work. A film made in this way will leave the audience cold. And even worse you’ll b3e wasting a powerful tool — the camer A.
A stage is actually a box. One side of the box has been removed so the audience can see what’s going on inside. The actors remain at a fixed audience. In the film, however, the camera can bring the audience up close and fix their attention on small but important things: a frightened look, a whisper, a trembling of hands.
The camera offers the film maker freedom allowing him to move easily across barriers(界限) of time and space. He can show his action in real cities and on real farms. He can also use the camera to change the scene dozens of times in one film. No expert of the stage can do this.

"Well, no one knows, but it's interesting to guess." "In the year 2050 everyone will carry a pocket computer. The computer will give people the answer to all their problems. We shall all have telephones, in our pockets , too , and we'll be able to talk to our friends all over the world. Perhaps we'll be able to see them at the same time." "A lot of people will live and work under the sea. Perhaps there will be big towns, factories, and farms under the sea, too." "Machines will do most of the work ,and so people will have more holidays. Perhaps they'll work only two or three days a week. They'll be able to fly to the moon by spaceship and spend their holidays there. ' "I'm looking forward to the year 2050. I hope to fly to the moon." "And I hope I'll be able to live under the sea, "says Fred. "Won't that be very interesting? Just like a fish!/

What's your idea of a good time? What about dancing
in a rainy field with one hundred and fifty thousand other people while a famous
rock band plays on a stage so far away that the performers look like
ants? It may sound strange but that is what many hundreds of
thousands of young people in the UK do every summer. Why? Because summer is the
time for outdoor music festivals. Held on a farm, the Glastonbury Festival is
the most well-known and popular in the UK. It began in 1970 and was attended by
one thousand five hundred people each paying an admission price of £ 1--the
ticket included free milk from the farm. Since then the
Glastonbury Festival has gone from strength to strength--in 2004 one hundred and
fifty thousand fans attended, paying £ 112 for tickets to the three-day event.
Tickets for the event sold out within three hours. Acts included veteran
(老的、著名的) superstars, such as Paul McCartney and James Brown, as well as new
talents, like Franz Ferdinand and Joss Stone. Although many
summer festivals are run on a profit-making basis, Glastonbury is a charity
event, donating millions of pounds to local and international
charities(慈善事业). Glastonbury is not unique in using live music
to raise money for global poverty. In July of this tear, the Live 8 concerts,
were held simultaneously (同时) in London, Paris, Rome and Berlin. Superstars,
such as Madonna, Sir Elton John and Stevie Wonder performed in order to
highlight international poverty and debt.

Want a glance of the future of health
care? Take a look at the way the various networks of people about patient care
are being connected to one another, and how this new connectivity is being
exploited to deliver medicine to the patient--no matter where he or she may
be. Online doctors offering advice based on normal symptoms are
the most obvious example. Increasingly, however, remote diagnosis will be based
on real physiological data from the actual patient. A group from the University
of Kentucky has shown that by using personal data assistance plus a mobile
phone, it is perfectly practical to send a patient's important signs over the
telephone. With this kind of equipment, the cry asking whether there was a
doctor in the house could well be a thing of the past. Other
medical technology groups are working on applying telemedicine to rural care.
And at least one team wants to use telemedicine as a tool for disaster
need--especially after earthquakes. On the whole, the trend is towards providing
global access to medical data and experts' opinions. But there
is one problem. Bandwidth is the limiting factor for sending complex medical
pictures around the world--CT photos being one of the biggest bandwidth users.
Communication satellites may be able to deal with the short-term needs during
disasters such as earthquakes or wars. But medicine is looking towards both the
second-generation Internet and third-generation mobile phones for the future of
remote medical service. Doctors have met to discuss
computer-based tools for medical diagnosis, training and telemedicine. With the
falling price of broadband communications, the new technologies should start a
new time when telemedicine and the sharing of medical information, experts'
opinions and diagnosis are common.

Forces other than damaging winds are
also at work inside tornadoes. Sometimes, as the twisting funnel passes over a
house, the walls and ceiling burst apart as if a bomb had gone off inside. This
explosion is caused by the low air pressure at the center of a
tornado. The pressure at the center of a tornado is usually 13
pounds per square inch. However, inside the house the air pressure is normal, a
bout 15 pounds per square inch. The difference of 2 pounds per square inch
between the inside and outside pressure may not seem like much. But suppose a
tornado funnel passes over a small building that measures 20 by 10 feet. On each
square inch of the building, there is 2 pounds of pressure from the inside that
is not balanced by air pres sure outside the building. On the ceiling, that adds
up to an unbalanced pressure of 57 600 pounds. The pressure on the four walls
adds up to 172 800 pounds. If windows are open in the building,
some of the inside air will rush out through them. This will balance the
pressure inside and out side the building. But if the windows are shut tightly,
the enormous inside pressure may cause the building to burst.
Unfortunately, heavy rain and hail often occur in thunderstorms that later
produce tornadoes. So people frequently shut all windows to protect their
property. This may cause far worse damage later. For the same reason, tornado
cellars must have an air vent. Otherwise, the cellar door might be blown out
when a tornado passes over it.
