单选题You're standing in the kitchen and a voice says, "Add a little more salt to that soup." Yes, it's always nice to have someone help you when you're cooking. But this voice is not from a man. You are alone! Then where does it come from? Is it from a ghost? No, this isn't a ghost kitchen -- it's the kitchen of the future. Scientists are working to improve everything in the kitchen, from fridges to tables, and even the way we cook. They are making a system. It will help a person cook a meal. You do not need cookbooks. You can hear how to cook food. The fridge of the smart kitchen has a scanner. It looks at the foods in the fridge. It will order more milk from the store when your milk has gone bad or there is no more in the fridge. The gloves will test the temperature of everything they touch and say, "Need to cook longer" or "Hot and ready to eat". If you leave them on the stove by mistake, you'll hear they say, "Fire!" Even the knives and spoons will speak. For example, if you food is had, the knives and spoons will tell you not to eat it. The future may look wonderful, but it's not cheap. The multimedia fridge costs about 8 000 dollars. So even though high-tech kitchens are no longer a dream, not everyone can afford it.

单选题{{B}}(D){{/B}} Millions of stars are travelling about in space. A few form groups which journey together, but most of them travel alone. And they travel through a universe so large that one star seldom comes near to another. For the most part each star makes its journey in complete loneliness, like a ship on an empty ocean. The ship will be well over a million miles from its nearest neighbor. From this it is easy to understand why a star seldom finds another anywhere near it. We believe, however, that some two thousand million years ago, another star wandering (漫游) through space, happened to come near our sun. Just as the sun and the moon raise tides (潮汐) on the earth, so this star must have raised tides on the surface of the sun. But they were very. different from the small tides that are raised in our oceans; a large tidal wave must have travelled over the surface of the sun, at last forming a mountain so high that we cannot imagine it. As the cause of the disturbance (动荡) came nearer, so the mountain rose higher and higher. And before the star began to move away again, its tidal pull had become so powerful that this mountain was tom to pieces and threw off small parts of itself into space. These small pieces have been going round the sun ever since. They are the planets (行星).

单选题{{B}}B{{/B}} August 13th, 2008 Dear Sirs, I am very happy to apply for the position of secretary, which you advertised in China Daily of August 11, 2008. I have been working as a secretary at a college office. Because I am the only secretary in the office, it is necessary for me to work quickly and efficiently and to be flexible in my daily work. Professors value my work and my ability to meet their needs. Although I am happy now, I feel that my promotion (晋升) is limited here, and I would like to have a more challenging job. Therefore, I enrolled (参加) in a program to expand my knowledge of international business affairs. Now, both my English and Chinese have been improved and I am ready to begin working as a bilingual secretary in an international company" like yours, and I believe I can be a great help to your firm. The enclosed resume gives further details of my qualifications, and I would appreciate it if you could give me an opportunity to have an interview.
