单选题Jamaica is an island country. It is a very beautiful and sunny place. It has green mountains and white beaches, Jamaica has warm days all year long. It rains a lot there. When Jamaica was founded, it was called Sunda Kelapa. Indians lived in Jamaica. Then Christopher Columbus arrived in 1494 and took the island for Spain. They made Indians work for them. Later they also brought Africans to the island to work as slaves. Then the British took Jamaica in 1655. Jamaica became a free country in 1962. English became the official language in Jamaica. As the cities in Jamaica grew, more people decided to move to Jamaica. Most of them came from China or India. The people in Jamaica wear colorful clothes. They carry things in a basket on top of their heads. Like most people in other countries around the world, Jamaicans like to play soccer. They also like to play a game called cricket. Cricket is played a little bit like baseball. It is a British game. People in Jamaica have many jobs. They work on farms. They sell fruits and vegetables in markets. Some pick coffee in the fields. Some work in factories. Some work in hotels, restaurants, and shops. Some people drive trucks. Some just work at home. They clean their own houses and take care of their children.
单选题The Certificates in English Language Skills (CELS) are a set of standard tests that allow you to test in one or more of the four language skills, or combine tests at different levels. Tests are available at three levels: GELS Higher, CELS Vantage and GELS Preliminary (初步的). So, if, for example, you are particularly good at reading but have difficulty in speaking English, you could take a CELS Higher test in Reading, CELS Vantage tests in Listening and Writing, and, for Speaking, a CELS Pre liminary test. Or you could decide not to take a speaking test at all. Those are linked(连接) to other Cambridge ESOL examination levels, such as the First Certificate in English. CELS are also accredited (公认) as part of the UK National Qualifications Framework. For more information on these, you can get a copy Of the GELS Handbook from Cambridge ESOL Chinese website. You can also visit www. alte. org for an overview of the "Can Do" statements ,which specify what you are expected to be able to do at each level.

CARDIFF, Wales. Poets, singers and
musicians from across the globe gathered in Wales to celebrate the tradition of
storytelling. "It might seem strange that people still want to
listen in age of watching television, but this is an unusual art form whose time
has come again," said David Ambrose, director of Beyond the Border, an
international storytelling festival in Wales. "Some of the
tales, like those the Inuit from Canada, are thousands of years old. So our
storytellers have come from distant lands to connect us with the distance of
time," he said early this month. Two Inuit women, both in their
mid 60s, are among the few remaining who can do Kntadjait, or throat singing,
which has few words and much sound. Their art is governed by the cold of their
surroundings, forcing them to say little but listen attentively.
Ambrose started the festival in 1993, after several years of working with
those reviving (coming back into use or existence) storytelling in
Wales. "It came out of a group of people who wanted to reconnect
with traditions and as all the Welsh are storytellers, it was {{U}}in good
