单选题{{B}}D{{/B}} It was late at night on October 10, 1939, when Dr Bethune was busy working in a field hospital. An Eighth Route Army soldier came and told Dr Bethune that the front was in great need of medical care. Dr Bethune set off with a medical team at once. On their way, they met a group of wounded Eighth Route Army men. They took the wounded soldiers into a small temple at once and Dr Bethune began to operate on them. Dr Bethune went on working all the night. The next day while an operation was going on, a young man ran in and said to the doctors, "Several hundred enemy soldiers are coming." Soon they heard the sound of gunshots. But Dr Bethune still went on with his work. Twenty minutes later, when Dr Bethune was operating on the leg of the last wounded soldier, the gunshots sounded much closer. This time the young man rushed in and told Dr Bethune not to go on operating any more. "Dr Bethune, you must leave now!" he cried. "Please go, Doctor," begged the wounded soldier himself. "It's not a bad wound. Take me with you, or leave me here, but please go before the enemies come." "Never mind, my boy, it won't take long," said Dr Bethune. "If I spend a few more minutes on it, I can save your leg. But if I don't, you'll lose it." The gunshots sounded closer and closer now, but Dr Bethune worked on. He and other doctors did not leave until the operation was over. By that time the Japanese enemies were already very near. As Dr Bethune and other doctors were climbing the hills, they could see the enemies walking in the valley below.

单选题{{B}}D{{/B}} No one wants to look silly or do the wrong thing at a new job. It is important to make the right impression — not the wrong one — from the very first day. You will face new people. You will be in a new place. It may be difficult to know what to do. Here are several tips to help you make it through the first days at a new job. 1. First impression can last forever. Make sure you make a good one. Before your first day, find out if your new job has a dress code. If so, be sure to follow it. No matter what, always be neat and clean. 2. Get to work on time. Employers value employees who come to work right on time. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes to make sure you arrive on time. 3. Pay attention to introductions. One of the first things that your supervisor (主管) may do is to introduce you to co-workers. These co-workers will be important to you. They are the ones who will answer your questions when the boss is not around. 4. Ask plenty of questions, Make sure that your supervisor has told you what is expected of you. If he or she has not told you your job duties, ask for a list. Set daily and weekly goals for yourself.

单选题{{B}}Text 1{{/B}} I have mentioned that English surnames can be like Smith or Baker, indicating how the original bearer of the name earned his living, or like Johnson and Nixon, they can mean "son of" a particular person. Another group of surnames describes what the first person to bear the name looked like, or comments on some aspects of his personality. Brown is a typical example of such a name, indicating a man who had brown hair. In the Middle Ages, when surnames were becoming hereditary (世袭的), most Englishmen probably had fair hair, so the man with brown hair was unusual. Similar surnames are Grey, for someone whose hair was that color, and Read or Reed, for a red-head. A man who was noted for his great strength might be known simply as Strong. He could also be called Turnbull because of his ability to take a bull by the horns and roll it over. If he was both strong and courageous, then he might earn the right to be called Hardy. Names which are comments on someone's behavior include Wild and Savage. More complimentary are names like Goodfellow, for a popular man, and Jolly, for someone who laughed a great deal. The modern form of a surname may be rather misleading, having changed its spelling or its meaning. A man called Blackbird, for instance, had an ancestor with a black beard. Simple now suggests someone of limited wisdom, but it used to refer to an honest person.

Where does the quality of geniuses come from? Is it all in the genes or can any child be turned into a genius? And if parents do have a child who might become a genius in the future, what should they do? In this 30-minute film, Barry Johnson, the professor at School of Medicine, New York University will help you discover the answer.{{B}} 10:00PM Science/Health{{/B}} Is it possible to beat high blood pressure without drugs? The answer is "yes", according to the researchers at Johns Hopking and three other medical centres. After a study of 800 persons with high blood pressure, they found that after 6 months those devoted to weight loss--exercise and eating a low-salt, low-fat food--lost about 13 pounds and became fitter. Plus, 35% of them dropped into the "normal" category (范畴). This week, Dr. Alan Duckworth will tell you how these people reduce their blood pressure to a level similar to what's achieved with Hypertension drags.
