单选题American society is not nap(午睡) friendly. In fact, says David Dinges, a sleep specialist at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. "There' s even a prohibition against admitting we need sleep". Nobody wants to be caught napping or found asleep at work. To quote a proverb: "Some sleep five hours, nature requires seven, laziness nine and wickedness eleven." Wrong. The way not to fall asleep at work is to take naps when you need them. "We have to totally change our attitude toward napping", says Dr. William Dement of Stanford University, the godfather of sleep research. Last year a national commission led by Dement identified an "American sleep debt "which one member said was important as the national debt. The commission was concerned about the dangers of sleepness: people causing industrial accidents or falling asleep while driving. This may be why we have a new sleep policy in the White House. According to recent reports, president Clinton is trying to take a half-hour snooze(打瞌睡)every afternoon. About 60 percent of American adults nap when given the opportunity. We seem to have "a midafternoon quiet phase "also called" a secondary sleep gate". Sleeping 15 minutes to two hours in the early afternoon can reduce stress and make us refreshed. Clearly, we were born to nap. We superstars of Snooze don't nap to replace lost shut-eye or to prepare for a night shift. Rather, we "snack" on sleep, whenever, wherever and at whatever time we feel like it. I myself have napped in buses, cars, planes and on boats; on floors and beds; and in libraries, offices and museums.

单选题American people does not always have a relaxing nap. David Dinges, an expert of sleep at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, says that the fact is there even exist some bans on that people who need sleep, People don't want to be caught asleep or napping at work. There is a proverb goes, "Some sleep five hours, nature requires seven, laziness nine and wickedness eleven." However, that is wrong. You need to take naps when you need them in order not to fall asleep at work. Dr William Dement of Stanford University who has made a great number of sleep researches argues that people's attitude towards napping need to be changed. Lately, "American sleep debt" was identified by a national commission as important as the national debt. The commission focused on the dangers of sleepiness. They suggested that sleepiness could cause industrial accidents or make people fall asleep while driving. This explains that why we have got a new policy of sleep in the White House to some extend. Some recent reports showed that former President Clinton tried taking a snooze every afternoon. Researches show that about 60 percent of American adults will take a nap if they are given the opportunity. Obviously, it is natural for us to nap. Sleeping fifteen minutes to two hours in the early afternoon can make us refreshed and reduce stress.

When I come across a good essay in reading
newspaper, I often feel like cutting and keep it. But just as I am about to do
so I find the article on the opposite side is as much interesting. It may be a
discussion of the way to keep in good health, or advice about how to be oneself
in society. If I cut the front essay, the opposite one is bound to suffer
damage, leaving out half of it or keeping the text without the subject. As a
result, the scissors would stay before they start, or halfway done. when I find
out the result that inevitably(不可避免地) causes my regret. Sometimes two things are
to be done at the same time, both, deserving your attention. You can only take
up one of them, the other has to wait or be given up. But you know the future
unpredictable (不可预见的 )--the changed situation may not allow you to do what is
left behind. Thus you are caught in a fix and feel sad. How come that nice
chances and brilliant ideas should gather.around all at once? It may happen that
your life changes dramatically on your preference of one alternative to the
other. In fact {{U}}that is what life is like{{/U}}: we are often
faced with the two opposite sides of a thing which are both desirable like
newspaper cutting. It often-occurs that our attention is drawn to one thing only
after we take up another. The former may be more important than the latter and
give rise to a divided mind. I still remember a philosopher' s(哲学家) remarks:
"When one door shuts, another opens in life. " So a passive choice may not be a
bad one. Whatever we do in our lifetime, wherever life' s storm
makes us go, there must be something we can achieve, some shore we can land on.
Don' t forget God always keeps an alternative door open for everyone. While the
front door is closed, there must be another open door for
you.
