单选题A device that stops drivers from falling asleep at the wheel is about to undergo testing at Department of Transport laboratories and could go on sale within 12 months. The system, called Driver Alert, aims to reduce deadly road accidents by 20%~40% that are caused by tiredness. Airline pilots can also use it to reduce the 30% of all pilot-error accidents that are related to fatigue(疲劳). Driver Alert is based on a computerized wristband. The device, worn by drivers or pilots, gives out a sound about every four minutes during a car journey. After each sound the driver must respond by squeezing the steering wheel(方向盘). A sensor in the wristband detects this pressing action and measures the time between the sound and the driver"s response. Tiredness is directly related to a driver"s response time. Usually, a watchful driver would take about 400 milliseconds to respond, but once that falls to more than 500 milliseconds, it suggests that the driver is getting sleepy. In such cases the device gives out more regular and louder sounds, showing that the driver should open a window or stop for a rest. If the driver"s response continues to slow down, the sounds become more frequent until a nonstop alarm warns that the driver must stop as soon as possible. The device has been delivered to the department"s laboratories for testing. If these tests, scheduled for six months" time, are successful, the markets will bring the product to market within about a year.

单选题{{B}}C{{/B}} Once upon a time, in a solar system there were two planets. Their names were Yee and Lan, and they loved each other very much. But they were a little sad, because it was so long between times that they got to be near each other. Most of the time they had to gaze from afar. Centuries went by, and one time as they passed, reaching out through the cold and emptiness, Yee slipped Lan a moon, because Yee had three and Lan had none. Lan looked so perfect with the new moon that all the other planets were a little jealous; and Yee didn't mind giving up that moon at all. So the planets kept on dancing to the music of the universe, and Lan's moon was admired by all, until one day an evil-minded ice-hearted comet viciously slammed into it, shattering it into a thousand pieces. At that time, Yee was all the way on the other side of the sun and couldn't hear the wails that rocked Lan through and through. After so long they were together again. Lan was almost afraid to look at Yee, but Yee reached out a wisp of atmosphere in comfort. He hesitated a minute, but then went ahead and smashed the two remaining moons together so that Lan would have no reason to feel bad. So around and around they went, much in love that they thought they would burst, even though they looked a little bare, and felt a little cold without their lovely moons. But then, something beautiful happened-their shimmering bits of moon dust started to flatten out, and make two large circles, one for each of them. And before too long, the circles became rings, great big wonderful rings, sparkling in the pure sunlight, the wonder of that solar system. And that is why when two people have so much love that they'll give each other rings, in memory of the planetary love of Yee and Lan.

单选题Allow me to give you a little advice about writing fiction. First, make your characters believable. Make sure that they behave and talk as individuals. In real life, everyone is unique. I fall your characters speak the same way and react to things in the same way, you'll lose your readers from the start. Once your readers believe in your characters, you must get them to care. Each reader must be able to identify with at least one character, to almost become that character in his or her mind. You can do this by developing characters with genuine human traits, both good and bad. The individuals who populate your story should have human strengths and weaknesses. Now it's time to weave your tale, to create a plot. Your readers are part of the story now; they are involved. One last thing. Your story must touch the readers' emotions. If you can make them laugh and cry along with your characters, you will be a successful writer.

单选题The relationship between the home and market economies has gone through two distinct stages. Early industrialization began the process of transferring some production processes (eg. cloth making, sewing and caning foods) from the home to the marketplace. Though the home economy could still produce these goods, the processes were laborious(费力的)and the market economy was usually more efficient. Soon, the more important second stage was evident -- the marketplace began producing goods and services that had never been produced by [he home economy, and the home economy was unable to produce them ( eg. electricity and electrical appliances, the automobile, advanced education, sophisticated medical care). In the second stage, the question of whether the home economy was less efficient in producing these new goods and services was irrelevant; if the family were to enjoy these result of industrialization, they would have to be got in the marketplace. The traditional ways of taking care of these needs in the home, such as in nursing the sick, became socially unacceptable ( and, in most serious cases, maybe less successful). Just as the appearance of the automobile made the use of horse --'drawn carriage illegal and then impractical, and the television changed the radio from a source of entertainment to a source of background music, so most of the fruits of economic growth did 'not increase the options available to the home economy to either produce the goods or services or purchase them in the market. Growth brought with it increased variety in consumer goods, but not in creased flexibility, for the home economy in obtaining these goods and services. Instead, economic growth brought with it increased consumer reliance on the marketplace. In order to consume these new goods and services, the family had to enter the marketplace as wage earners and consumers. The neoclassical(新古典主义的)model that views the family as deciding whether to produce goods and services directly or to purchase them in the marketplace is basically a model of the first stage. It cannot .accurately be applied to the second( and current) stage.

单选题Christine was recently digging through old boxes in her storeroom, preparing to move to a new house. In one box, she came across a magazine of June 2, 1986. There"s a reason Christine had saved the magazine for 20 years. In its pages, she was one of more than a dozen women reported in an article discussing the "cruel reality" of their poor marriage prospects (前景). At the time Christine was living in Chicago and greatly annoyed by the fact that her social life didn"t seem to be progressing toward a trip down the aisle . "I had a lot of girlfriends in the same boat," she says. But a funny thing happened. At age 40, she married; a few weeks ago she and her husband celebrated their 10th anniversary (周年纪念日). Today she"s the happy morn of two children from her husband"s first marriage. Looking back on her single days, she remembers her unhappiness. "I had the same feeling that many women have, which is that you"re not considered a whole person unless you"re married with children," she says. "But as I reached my 40s, I realized that was totally wrong ... I could still have a very fulfilling life." It was only after she"d come to peace with the fact that she might never marry that she met her future husband while shopping in a supermarket. To mark the 20th anniversary of this story, reporters sought out as many of the women in the story as they could find. Out of 14 single women in the article, 11 were found. Among them, eight ended up marrying, and three remain single. Several had children. None divorced. For her part, Christine isn"t surprised. "I"ve watched a lot of people, married while young, get divorced," she says. "I think that if you do wait until Mr. Right comes along, you have a much better chance."
