单选题During the second half of 1776, the British had driven Washington's armies from their strongholds in and near New York City. Washington retreated, moving southeast across New Jersey. Before his army reached the shores of the Delaware, he sent soldiers ahead to bring together all the boats they could find. When the British arrived at the east bank early in December, the Colonials were safely across. And the British could find only two small boats on a pond. For the time being, the British gave up the chase. They set up camp at Trenton and at other strongholds along the Delaware. Washington had the boats on the Pennsylvania side, but that was about all he had. Food was short, and many soldiers were too iii to march. And any day now, the river might freeze, making it possible for the British force to cross into Pennsylvania. If the struggle for freedom was to continue, Washington had to have a victory. Finally he decided to re-cross the Delaware at Mckonkey's Ferry. That was nine miles up river from Trenton. Washington's plan was to cross under cover of darkness on Christmas night and attack the 2,000 to 3,000 British soldiers in Trenton. The general expected that the enemy force would still be celebrating the holiday. On the evening of December 25, Washington gave the orders to cross. It was sleeting snowing, and the river was filled with floating ice. Finally, his force of more than 2,000 men was on the Jersey side. It was after 2 a.m.. In a battle that lasted less than two hours, they defeated the enemy force. Washington had the victory he needed.

Taking a nap is frowned upon by many
people and is viewed as fondness for the elderly and children. Mention nap and
you could be seen as lazy, depressed and unwilling to work. However, taking a
nap is one of the best but most underused tools for busy people to ease
weariness. The majority of people experience drowsiness in the afternoon and
notice their work efficiency and mood starting to slip and taking a nap will
help combat this. The results of research suggest that taking a
nap can make you more alert, reduce stress and improve cognitive function
compared to those who working all day without rest. A mid-afternoon nap means
that productivity can last long into the night. Researchers at NASA found that a
30- minute full nap increased cognitive function by 40%. The volunteers on the
tests found that their memory improved as well as experiencing an increase in
concentration. Those who didn't nap would score lower on IQ test than those who
did (after a day of work). If you feel tired in the afternoon
and from then on can't perform at your best, t recommend taking a short power
nap to get yourself feel alert and ready for work. You will notice your mood and
alertness to be improved. ! advise keeping the nap between 15 and 30 minutes if
you want to avoid getting into deeper stages of sleep. If you do, you'll find it
harder to wake and may experience the unstable feeling for a while.
For those who are worried about the after-affect of a nap, there is the
caffeine nap. A caffeine nap is taken after an intake of caffeine, so that you
are asleep while your body digests the caffeine. After a 15 -30 minutes nap, you
wake up and have the caffeine in your system. This is great if you need to be
instantly on the move after a nap, and you can bounce out of your sleeping state
and jump into refreshed Work feeling. Finding 15 -30 minutes to
take a nap in a day sometimes seems difficult, but doing so is very helpful to
your productivity. Even 10 minutes of a nap every day will be better than
nothing at all, and may give you the energy you need to be successful. If you're
willing to have a try, make sure you can find a comfortable place before setting
your head down. If you can feel secure and let go, then your rest will be even
more beneficial.

单选题{{B}}Passage 1{{/B}}
There is one kind of pain for which nobody has yet
found a cure--the pain that comes from the ending of a relationship. The
relationship could be a marriage or a deep friendship. Such a relationship may
come to a sudden end; or it may simply fade away slowly as people and
circumstances change. You may be the one to "break it off', with a short note or
a brief phone call. Or you may be on the receiving end. However it ended and
whoever decided to end it, the pain is equally hard to bear and it requires the
same time for grief. Although there is no cure for grief, we can not help
looking for one, to ease the pain and to make us forget our tears. We keep
ourselves busy with work, or we try to plunge ourselves into our hobbies.
Perhaps we start to drink more than we should to "drown our sorrows", or we
follow the conventional advice and join a club or society. But these things
cannot cure it. Moreover, we are always in a hurry to get rid of our grief. We
feel that we should try to convince ourselves, as we bite on the pillow, that we
are much too old to be crying. Some people bury their grief deep inside
themselves. Others seek relief by pouring their hearts out to their friends, or
to anyone else who can offer a sympathetic shoulder to cry on. It is not easy to
explain why we adopt these attitudes to emotional pain. Part of the answer must
lie in the nature of grief itself. The important thing to admit about grief,
then, is that it will take its time. By trying to convince ourselves that it
ought to be over sooner, we create an additional tension which can only make
things worse. How much time is needed will vary from person to
person, but psychiatrists have a rule of thumb: grief will last as long as the
original relationship lasted. The sad thing is that, when the breakdown occurs,
we can only stumble forward over the stones beneath our feet. It is dark ahead,
and we will fall painfully many times before we begin to see the light at the
end of the tunnel.
