单选题. Egyptian wine has an extensive history within the history of Egyptian civilization. Grapes were not 21 to the landscape of Egypt, rather the vines themselves are 22 to have been imported from the Phoenicians, 23 the actual origins remain in 24 . 25 is known, is that by the third millennium BC, Egyptian kings of the first 26 had extensive wine cellars, and wine was used extensively in the temple ceremonies. The main 27 of wine in Egypt took place between the king, nobles, and the priests in temple ceremonies and is 28 by numerous painted reliefs, and other 29 evidence. Later, 30 , the viticulture (or wine making) ceased to 31 exclusively ceremonial purposes, the Egyptians began to experiment with simple structures for their vines to train on, 32 found a way to train their vines so they were easy low 33 bushes, and found ways for the soil to 34 more moisture for the vines. Egyptian wine making experiments included the use of different wine presses, adding heat to the must (the grape juice ready for fermentation) 35 make the wine sweet, and differences in vat types and materials. The 36 finished product of wine was poured through a cloth filter, and then into earthenware jars, 37 they would be sealed with natural tar and left to 38 . 单选题. It is natural for young people to be critical of their parents at times and to blame them for most of the misunderstandings between them. They have always complained, more or 1 justly, that their parents are out of touch 2 modern ways; that they are possessive and dominant; 3 they do not trust their children to deal with crises; that they 4 too much about certain problems—and that they have no 5 of humor, at least in parent-child relationships. I think it is true that parents often 6 their teenage children and also forget how they themselves felt 7 young. Young people often irritate their parents with their 8 if clothes and hairstyles, in entertainers and music. This is not their 9 . They feel cut off from the adult world into which they have not 10 been accepted. So they create a culture and society of their own. 11 , if it turns out that their music or entertainers or vocabulary or clothes or hairstyles 12 their parents, this gives them additional enjoyment. They feel they are 13 , at least in a small way, and that they are leaders in style and 14 . Sometimes you are resistant, and proud because you do not want your parents to 15 of what you do. If they did approve, it looks as if you are 16 your own age group. But in that case, you are 17 that you are the underdog (失败者): you can't win but at least you can keep your honor. This is a 18 way of looking at things. It is natural enough after long years of childhood, 19 you were completely under your parents' control. But it 20 the fact that you are now beginning to be responsible for yourself. So if you plan to control your life, cooperation can be part of that plan.1.

单选题. The president appeals to labor and management to hold down wages and prices, but says not a word about any controls to be imposed by the Government. The business and financial community has been given 1 that interest rates will soon be lowered, and that this particularly will 2 money available for more activity in new housing. Nobody in the Administration, however, is 3 specifically just when the high interest rates will 4 down. Paul W. McCracken, Chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers, in a press conference on March 17, said that he does not 5 the country is running into a 6 . Arthur Burns, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, has been 7 that the 8 money policy will have to be relaxed in order to prepare the 9 for a decline in interest rates. It is apparent, 10 , that uncertainty 11 even in Government circles, and that experimentalism 12 a reliance on past experience in 13 with wages and prices has been reason why the nation has been drifting into a depression. Evidently there will be no effort to impose wage and price controls 14 the political consequences are feared. So the 15 are that the Administration will try a new 16 to manage what it considers a slowdown by 17 just a little more inflation. This is a risky way to handle an economy which has a 18 national product of more than $950 billion. Anyway, officials hope that their corrective measures will stop the slowdown in business and that the economy soon will 19 itself. So, in effect, the soft-spoken 20 of Government today is: "Recession, please go away!"1.

英译汉1. The World Financial Situation Bond markets appear to be telling a different story.1 Bond prices have continued rallying, and the yield for two-year US Treasuries has fallen to 3.1% (as at 12 December). Bond markets have also priced in future interest rate cuts, which has helped their yields fall. Bonds are seen as forward indicators. Bond prices rally and yields fall when investors anticipate an economic downturn.2 During recessionary periods, bonds tend to outperform as investors switch out of growth assets into safe investing instruments. The divergence in bond and equity markets3 could be the result of economic uncertainty. At present, US economic growth appears to be moderating, driven by a sharp slowdown in the housing sector.4 The problems in sub-prime mortgages, when homeowners increased mortgages on their homes at temporary low rates of interest in order to provide themselves with immediate spending money, have led to more foreclosures and caused house prices to decline. Financial institutions with direct or indirect exposure to sub-prime mortgages have started reporting huge profit losses, and their increased reluctance to lend has led to tighter credit conditions. Excessive tightening and much lower house prices could lead to reduced US domestic consumption.5 This has raised fears of a recession. As more banks report larger than expected losses, concern over the potential impact on the financial system and the economy has increased, deepening fears of a recession. However, key data such as employment6 has continued to hold up (supporting domestic consumption), and companies continue to report profits. This supports the hope that the US economy will not enter a period of negative economic growth, and won't fall into a recession. Key to this will be how the Fed responds to tightening credit conditions. The Fed cut interest rates in December, and has left the door open to further cuts if necessary. It has also announced measures to inject liquidity into the financial system. In an overall environment of soft growth, investors will likely pay a premium for markets where growth appears more certain. As growth in the US will be relatively slow, focus is likely to turn to high-growth emerging markets. Asia, except Japan, will be the likely beneficiary, as valuations still remain relatively reasonable and economic growth remains strong. The trend toward a weaker US dollar is likely to continue but the USD is unlikely to collapse. We expect that Asian currencies will continue to appreciate against the USD as they7 adjust to reflect their stronger underlying fundamentals. In the short term, the USD could continue to depreciate against the GBP and EUR, but these currencies look increasingly expensive in valuation terms.
