填空题·Read the article below about the shortage of talent in Asia. ·Choose the best sentence from the opposite page to fill each of the gaps. ·For each gap 8-12, mark one letter (A-G). ·Do not use any letter more than once. ·There is one extra letter which you do not need to use. Asia's Skills Shortage It seems odd. In the world's most populous region the biggest problem facing employers is a shortage of people. Asia has more than half the planet's inhabitants and is home to many of the world's fastest-growing economies. But some businesses are being forced to reconsider just how quickly they will be able to grow, because they cannot find enough people with the skills they need. In a recent survey, 600 Chief executives of multinational companies with businesses across Asia were interviewed.{{U}} (8) {{/U}}It was their second-biggest headache in Japan (after cultural differences) and the fourth-biggest in India (after problems with infrastructure, bureaucracy and wage inflation) . Across almost every industry and sector it was the same. Old Asia-hands may find it easy to understand why there is such concern. The region's rapid economic growth has fished out the pool of available talent, they would say.{{U}} (9) {{/U}}Recent growth in many parts of Asia has been so great that it has rapidly transformed the type of skills needed by businesses. Schools and universities have been unable to keep up. This is especially true for professional staff. Airlines are one example. Many new carriers are setting up and airlines are offering more services to meet demand. {{U}}(10) {{/U}}According to Alteon Training, the commercial-pilot training arm of Boeing, India has fewer than 3000 pilots today but will need more than 12000 by 2025. China will need to find an average of 2200 new pilots a year just to keep up with the growth in air travel, which means it will need more than 40000 pilots by 2025. In the meantime, with big international airlines training only a few hundred pilots a year, Asian airlines have taken to poaching them, often from each other. {{U}} (11) {{/U}}China has been trying to lure pilots from Brazil, among other places. With such a mismatch between supply and demand in Asia's labour markets, companies will have to become better at hiring good staff and keeping them. The first priority is to realize that retention is more important than recruitment. But as some companies will always be better at this than others, the job-hopping and poaching are set to continue for many years, until education and training catch up.{{U}} (12) {{/U}}Without talented recruiting policies, some firms may end up scaling back their bold Asian growth-plans. A.However, there is also a failure of education. B.Philippine Airlines, for instance, lost 75 pilots to overseas airlines during the past three years. C.As it turned out, they ranked a shortage of qualified staff as their biggest concern in China and South-east Asia. D.There is also a severe shortage of good managers. E.The consequences of that are depressing and will limit the growth. F.But, in the meantime, there is a dreadful shortage of pilots. G.Asia has more than half the planet's inhabitants and is home to many of the world's fastest-growing economies.

填空题New Technology Links In the past 10 years, Jones and May have made a £350m investment in information technology. Their desktop computers can access sales data from the tills allowing them to change orders.. Every time a customer makes a purchase, the Jones and May Till do a lot more than just producing their change and a receipt. With the help of an advanced computer system the Tills feed the information to their central computers, which calculate what stock is needed. (8) They are then almost instantly able to organize the following day's or week's deliveries. (9) For example, food shelves do not sell out early on a Saturday as they used to and a wider range of goods are available on a Monday. Using advanced communication between stores, Head Office and suppliers, the computers work out what has been sold each day, what suppliers need to produce, and what should be delivered to stores the following day. (10) Fewer customers are disappointed and profits improve. (11) When a new season's range of clothes goes into stores in a variety of colors, the computer system makes it possible to respond to sales data almost overnight and, for example, increase the production of clothes in faster-selling colors and sizes. On the occasion that an item is temporarily out of stock, information technology enables sales staff to tell customers immediately whether it is available from the distribution center. If it is, an order can be placed. (12) So next time you are handed a Jones and May receipt you will know that the system is already reacting to your purchase and reordering the item you have just bought. A. This involves serious delays and damages customer confidence. B. Among the benefits for clothing is the fact that stores receive new deliveries according to their exact requirements. C. This unusually responsive system provides benefits in terms of both customer service and profits. D. This information is fed from there directly into the suppliers' computers. E. The new system has halved the delivery time for customers down to 24 hours from 48 hours. F. Such a quick and sensitive response ensures that the right amount of fresh food arrives at each store. G. Their desktop computers can access sales data from the tills allowing them to change orders.

In the past, a new employee would34 start by delivering the office mail. He would then work his way up the ladder,35 gaining higher and more responsive positions, eventually leading to the management.36 But with the rapid growth of getting business courses and qualifications there is37 now another way many of people who aim for top management can miss out on the38 'mail delivery' stages by studying for a period and gaining in one of the numerous39 business qualifications now available.. There is some criticism of this accelerated40 promotion. It is felt that it results in knowledge without also experience, and such41 knowledge type is inevitably incomplete. On the other hand the growth in business42 courses has led to much more highly skilled business practices. The answer seems43 to be that both experience and qualifications have their value, but as it should not be forgotten44 that experience is45 a qualification in itself

填空题Increasing Customer Loyalty Customers are not revolutionaries. They are attracted to the certainty of knowing that what they buy it will be good value for money or will perform a particular task effectively. 34.They are cautious but their loyalty, without once achieved, is the key to business success. 35.Brands can help to create customer loyalty by providing them a signpost to certainty and 36.safety. Ideally, when a customer sees a product, it leads to a range of positive thoughts 37.so that the product is bought. Unluckily, only a small number of products have 38.reached to this level. While everyone in business is aware of the need to attract and 39.retain customers, that they often overlook the second, more important, half of the 40.equation. In the excitement of beating against the competition and securing orders, 41.managers often cannot ensure that the customer remains a customer. It has been 42.estimated that since the average company loses between 10% and 30% of its customers 43.every year and this only recently have organisations started to wake up to these lost 44.opportunities and to calculate the financial implications. Established customers often buy 45.lot more and, and in addition, they may also provide free word-of-mouth advertising.
