单选题· Read the following passage below about a Chairman's Statement.· For each question (23-28), choose the correct answer.· Mark one letter (A, B or C) on your Answer sheet. {{B}}CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT{{/B}} Despite the appearance of a new competitor on the market the company continued to grow and increase its market share throughout 2006. Partly in response to this new threat but. more importantly, as part of a strategy for growth, several key decisions were taken this year. The most significant new developments included a range of vitamin-rich children's drinks and low calorie diet drinks, which both proved very popular. The company is still best known for its range of refreshing fruit drinks and. not surprisingly, these were our biggest sellers once more. There were two new additions to the range last year, "Joyful" and "Refresh", both of which have a distinctive Caribbean flavour. The first sales figures suggest that our expensive TV advertising campaign was very successful and that these products will soon be as popular as the rest of the fruit drink range. Growth in the keep-fit and health markets meant our energy drinks did well in 2006. Sales of one brand, "Delight", were second only to fruit drinks in July. The strength of this particular market also explains the success of our new diet drinks. There were, however, big differences in the performance of our older products. The company's oldest product, mineral water, continued to enjoy a healthy share of a very profitable mass market. It seems our customers are still happy to stay with the brand despite the increasing number of competitors' products. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of our Ice-J and Chocomania drinks. Sales showed an initial increase in the summer after we re-launched both products but customers soon bought other brands and total annual sales for both product ranges were disappointing. The company also said goodbye to its own brand of cola. launched in 2004. After two unsuccessful years of trying to break into the huge cola market. 2006 looked like being another poor year. The company finally accepted that it had made a wrong decision and stopped production in October of that year.

单选题· Read the following passage about traffic.· Are the sentences 16-22 "Right" or "Wrong"? If there isn't enough information to answer "Right" or "Wrong", choose "Doesn't say".· For each sentence, mark one letter (A, B or C) on your Answer Sheet. {{B}}Too many cars?{{/B}} Everyone agrees that there are simply too many cars on the road but who will be the first to stop using theirs? Although everyone hates being stuck in traffic, no one sees their cars as part of the growing problem. However, with traffic growth up to 84 per cent expected by 2025 and the ever-increasing cost of accidents and delays already at $160 bn in Europe, there is a growing need to change our 'culture' and develop alternative forms of transport as quickly as possible. One answer is to make cars more expensive by increasing taxes on petrol. However, tax increases will affect the people who live in the country more than city drivers and do little to reduce inner city traffic. The Government is also looking at pay-as-you-drive schemes on motorways but this will push cars on to smaller 'free' roads, which will make the problem worse, A successful transport policy is not just a question of making the car too expensive but of offering car drivers a real alternative. Many motorists dislike driving to work but say public transport services are too slow, offer poor quality and are tar too expensive. If new transport policies are to succeed, public transport needs to be quick, reliable and affordable. Transport planners are also developing ways of managing the existing road network more efficiently. New technology such as smart cards and electronic monitoring of roads will lead to a more efficient use of transport systems. However, technology will not reduce the number of cars on the road or solve the real problem of how to persuade car drivers to leave their beloved cars at home more often.

单选题A City of Many Faces Amsterdam is a city of many faces. It is the capital of the Netherlands. even though it is not the seat of Parliament or the government. Amsterdam is more than just a capital, however. It is the essence of the Netherlands: not just because it is the largest city in the country, but more particularly because it is the mainspring of our country's economic, social and cultural life. Already more than seven hundred years old, our compact city has more of which it can be proud: world-class orchestras and dance groups, more than forty renowned museums, almost a thousand restaurants serving cuisine from countries around the globe, gabled mansions and magnificent churches from the 17th century Golden Age. But, as Amsterdammers. we are most proud of our tradition of hospitality. We really want every one to feel at home. You will find this friendliness and helpfulness everywhere: at tile XXX Tourist Office, in our hotels and restaurants, at our colorful street markets and distinctive Haute Couture shops, in our brown cafes and nightclubs. Whether you are a business executive or a tourist, you will find people here eager to talk with you usually in your own language. Multilingualism is another feature in which the Dutch take pride.

单选题On December 11th, 2001, China formally became one of the members of the WTO after a long period of 15 years' negotiations with the WTO member countries. During these years, China gradually liberalized most of her trade and investment policies, making the official admission largely symbolic, it is quite significant for China to join the WTO. It certainly will facilitate China's international business. And this should reinforce moves towards market liberalization. The WTO membership signals China's commitment to establish clear and enforceable non-discriminatory rules to conduct business within its own country and with other countries. China is becoming relatively powerful in the world's economy. By joining the WTO, China can enjoy many favourable rights in doing international trade, but in the meantime, China has to perform her obligations. There are more advantages than disadvantages for China to join the WTO though China's national industries may meet great impact. After China becomes one of the WTO members, her economic growth will greatly increase and her legal and governmental reforms will be facilitated. According to a WTO report, which was released on October 10, 2002, China has become the fourth largest trade body in the world following the Triad= the United States, the European Union and Japan. The improved trade environment following her entry into the WTO resulted in the rapid growth in China's trade volume. Therefore, it can be seen that China's entry into the WTO has great positive impact on China's international trade. Since China became one of the members of the WTO, foreign investments have been flowing into this country, which is opposite to the prediction that China's foreign investment would decrease after China's entry into the WTO. This is because China has rich, low-cost labor resources and the vast market, both of which provide much scope for profit and make foreign investors more confident in investing in China. Besides, the stable and promising political and economic situations attract foreign investors. China must observe the same "game rules" as the other members of the WTO do, which will speed up her step to integrate its economy into the global economic framework. Besides. China's entry into the WTO will help private businesses to improve their growth. The Chinese government must also grant equal rights to all enterprises no matter whether they are state-owned or private ones according to the WTO equal treatment principle.
