In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that person who hindered the growth of their colleagues and the company itself.

The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room.

There was also a sign next to the mirror that said: "There is only one person who is capable of setting limits to your growth and IT IS YOU!"

Your life does not change, when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your husband or wife changes, when your company changes, when your location changes, when your money changes, when your status changes…
No, your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs inside. Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don't be afraid of difficulties, impossibilities and losses. Be a winner: build yourself and your reality. 【T5】
Remember, it's the way you face life itself that makes the difference.
Given the choice, younger professionals are most interested in working at tech companies like Apple and government agencies like the State Department, but they are comparatively disinterested in working in the financial industry, according to a survey conducted by Universum, a research firm. What attracts college graduates to big tech companies like Apple is mainly the cool factor surrounding these companies and their products, as the survey found young professionals were most influenced by the strength of the corporation's brand when picking their most desired companies. " Companies that have appealing consumer brands generally also succeed in being perceived as attractive employers. People nowadays love to work for companies that produce their favorite products and services,"said Kortney Kutsop, employer branding specialist for Universum. "Also, market success is an important factor: The company needs to be generally seen as innovative and best-in-class in whatever they do-that's the recipe for success. By contrast, financial institutions like Citigroup, whose brands have been spoiled in recent years by the collapse of the financial industry, ranked in the lower half of the list of 99 companies desired by young professionals. Beyond the power of a company's brand, college graduates were also heavily influenced by the perceived financial stability of each company, which may explain why major corporations like Apple would rank at the top, since they are constantly expanding and hiring new employees. On the other hand, government agencies, which fared slightly worse than the tech companies, may have been hurt by perceived weaknesses in recent years, given that the public sector as a whole has been forced to freeze wages and lay off employees. Universum, which surveyed more than 10,000 young professionals who graduated from college in the last eight years, also found that many of them are looking to switch jobs in the near future. In fact, half of those surveyed claimed to have applied to other jobs in the past year and a quarter plan to switch jobs within six months, suggesting that the organizations at the top of this list may be flooded with new applications in the coming months.

In the United States during 1992, any family of four with an annual cash income of less than $ 14, 335(before taxes)was considered poor. The dollar amount was called the poverty line, an economic measuring rod devised in 1964. The line was set at three times the amount needed to provide the cheapest nutritionally balanced diet. The poverty line is adjusted annually for inflation. While the poverty line in the United States was more than $ 14, 000, the average annual per-person income in Bangladesh was $ 200, in Ethiopia $ 130, in Haiti $ 340, and in Mali $ 4, 265. Anyone in those nations with an income of $ 14, 000 would be considered wealthy. During the Great Depression in the United States, when half the population was considered poor, a family with an income at the 1992 poverty line could afford to buy a house, a car, clothing and food. The reality of poverty varies with location and social and political conditions. Poverty basically means a lack of, or an insufficient amount of, the three primary physical needs— food, clothing, and shelter. But for poverty to be recognized, it must exist alongside prosperity. Before the discovery of the New World, the American Indians would not have considered themselves poor, though they lived with only the bare necessities and a few handmade arti-facts(人工制品). The severity of poverty varies, depending on the economic vitality of the nation in which it occurs. In the modern industrialized societies of Western Europe, North America, and Japan, there are many government services provided to ease poverty—including free medical care and subsidized housing. The homeless of New York City and Los Angeles can usually find some shelter and a mission offering free meals.

Edward and Robert Harmer were both born in the house onCranberry Lane. The map of their town had a special note about the Harmer house and its historical importance. Their great-grandfather had built it with his own two hands in 1850. It was the house their grandfather and father had been born in. It was the house that had all their memories. The boys had always been close as children. They were only two years apart, and, although they sometimes fought as brothers do, mostly they were inseparable. There was never a dull moment in the Harmer household. The energetic brothers spent their summers running around. They would go fishing in the local river, and try to catch the biggest fish in the world. The whole area was full of secret hiding places where they could go and no one would find them. And they really needed hiding places. The boys were constantly getting into trouble, much to the worry of their parents. Whether it was accidentally throwing footballs through their neighbors' windows, pouring paint onto Mrs. Pinklewit's rose bushes or putting shaving cream all over Uncle Bart's car, the boys somehow always got away from punishments. When they got older, Edward and Robert spent less time around the house and more time with their friends. But their house was still the best place to have a party. With its huge lawn, it was perfect for picnics. Their mother made the best fried chicken in town, and everybody knew it. Holidays were also a popular time at the Harmer's house. Every New Year's Eve they threw a big party. Practically the whole town came. Their mother would start planning the party on Thanksgiving. It was the biggest event in their town. And when the boys went off to college, they always brought friends home to share the holiday spirit.

In Lusaka, Zambia, a young man applying for a job was told to see the manager. He leaned over the receptionist's desk and asked. "What tribe(部落)is he?" When the receptionist told him that the manager was a Mashona, the applicant replied, "Then I'll never get the job. " This phenomenon is called tribalism(部落主义). There are more than 2, 000 tribes in black Africa. Each has its own language, customs, and physical characteristics that make its members almost immediately recognizable to a person from another tribe. To the Westerner, tribalism is one of the most difficult of African customs to understand. It makes many people think of savagery, warfare, or old-fashioned customs. However, to most Africans, tribalism simply means very strong loyalty to one's ethnic group. It is a force that can be both good and bad. By definition tribalism means sharing among members of the extended family. It makes sure that a person is taken care of by his own group tribesman. To give a job to a fellow is not wrong: it is an obligation. Similarly, for a politician or military leader, it is considered good common sense to choose his closest advisers from people of his own tribe. This ensures security, continuity, and authority. Tribal loyalty may mean a quick promotion—from sergeant to captain, from clerk to manager— within a very short time. Tribalism remains perhaps the most powerful force in day-to-day African life. Yet modern African politicians publicly speak out against tribal divisions.

The exhibit "Life in Shadows-. Hidden Children and the Holocaust" used to be on display in the early 2000s at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D. C. Now a transcript and photos of some of the exhibit' s displays can be found on the museum' s website as an online exhibition. The exhibition reveals the stories of Jewish children who escaped the Holocaust. The Holocaust refers to the killing of 6 million Jews and others whom the Nazis (纳粹)thought to be inferior. The Nazis killed about 1.5 million Jewish children. Thousands of Jewish children, however, survived by concealing their identities or hiding out in places like cellars and barns. For example, there is a photo of a sweater worn by 8-year-old Krystyna Chiger, who hid in the sewers (下水道)for more than a year. Visitors to the site can also view a photo of a light-blue dress worn by Sabina Kagan when she hid from the Nazi death squads (行刑队). Also in the exhibition is a photo of tiny " toy soldiers" Jurek Orlowski and his brother fashioned out of wood. The brothers played with the soldiers in a dirty basement because they were afraid to go outside. Leon Chameides, ofWest Hartford, Connecticut, told his story of survival through several photos and an oral account he donated to the museum. When the Germans invaded the Soviet Union in 1941,Leon' s father asked a priest to take care of Leon. The priest sent him to a church, where Leon had to pretend to be a Christian. He changed his name and learned a new language. " I had to pretend I was someone else," Leon said in the video. "That was an enormous burden to place on a 7-year-old."
There is no doubt that adults, and even highly educated adults, vary greatly in the speed and efficiency of their reading. Some proceed very slowly throughout: others dash along too quickly and then have to regress. Poor readers in particular may lack the ability to vary their manner of reading according to the type of reading matter and to their intentions in reading it. A good reader can move at great speed through the text of a novel or similar light reading matter. He may be able to skim a page, picking up a word or two here and there, and gain a general idea of what the text is about without really reading it. In reading more difficult material, with the intention of taking in the whole of it, he will proceed more slowly, but even then he will vary his pace, concentrating on the key words and passages, perhaps re-reading them several times and pass more quickly over the remainder. A less efficient reader tends to maintain the same speed whatever the material he reads. Consequently, even light reading matter gives him little pleasure because he reads so slowly. But this pace may be too fast for really difficult material which requires special concentration at difficult points. A type of reading which necessitates careful attention to detail is proofreading, in which the reader, in order to detect misprints in a sample print, has to notice not so much the meaning of what he reads as the exact shape and order of letters and words in the text. This is extremely difficult for most people, since they are accustomed to overlooking such details. In fact, considerable practice is required to practice this task efficiently and it can be done only by reading very slowly, and by paying comparatively little attention to the general meaning of the text.
