Some of them later began to【B4】considerable private investment. After World War II, this type of state- owned employment became very important. Labor in those enterprises consisted basically【B5】two tiers: a largely market-oriented allocation of blue-collar and some white-collar workers, and a mostly state allocation of most of the white-collar workers including managerial and technical personnel. The latter was a distorted labor market that featured strong【B6】considerations in allocating and managing labor. Personal and kinship connections, the so-called "petticoat influence", and political【B7】were the norm for this type of labor allocation pattern. In a way, it was midway between a rather crude market oriented labor allocation pattern and the centuries-old, warm, family-based traditional labor allocation pattern. It covered a very small but important portion of the Chinese labor force, and thus【B8】our attention. Later, it apparently provided the historical precedent【B9】state-owned enterprises to allocate their administrative and technical cadres, even its entire industrial labor force,【B10】state employees.

Nowadays, we have technology that"s improved so that we can bring people back to life. In fact, there are drugs being developed right now -- who knows if they"ll ever make it to the market -- that may actually slow down the process of brain-cell injury and death. Imagine you fast-forward to 10 years down the line; and you"ve given a patient, whose heart has just stopped, this amazing drug; and actually what it does is, it slows everything down so that the things that would"ve happened over an hour, now happen over two days. After an hour or so the damage is so great that even if we restart the heart again and pump blood, the person can no longer be viable, because the cells have just been changed too much. And then the cells continue to change so that within a couple of days the body actually decomposes. So it"s not a moment; it"s a process that actually begins when the heart stops and culminates in the complete" loss of the body, the decompositions of all the cells. However, ultimately what matters is, what"s going on to a person"s mind? What happens to the human mind and consciousness during death? Does that cease immediately as soon as the heart stops? Does it cease activity within the first 2 sec., the first 2 min.? Because we know that cells are continuously changing at that time. Does it stop after 10 min., after half an hour, after an hour? And at this point we don"t know.

I have had to work with temps a few times in my current position, and the workers only want one thing - a full-time job with benefits. We really wanted to hire one temp I was working with, but we could not offer her a full-time job because it would have been a breach in our contract with the temp agency that employed her. To hire a temp full-time, we would have had to pay the agency over a thousand dollars. Through this practice and policy, the temp agency locks its temporary workers into a horrible new form of servitude form which the worker cannot break free. Furthermore, corporate powers push workers to take on bigger workloads, work longer hours, and accept less benefits by instilling a paranoia in their workforce. The capitalist bosses assume dishonesty, disloyalty, and laziness amongst workers, and they breed a sense of guilt and fear through their assumptions. Where guilt doesn"t seep in, bitterness, anger, and depression take over, the highest priorities of Big Business are to increase profits and limit liabilities. Personal relations and human needs are last on their list of priorities. So what we see is a huge mass of people who are alienated, disempowered, overworked, mentally and physically ill and who spend the vast majority of their time and energy on their basic survival. They are denied a chance to really "love", because they are forced to make profits for the capitalists in power.

After a 300 million yuan renovation project, Lidai Diwang Miao, or the Imperial Temple of Emperors of Successive Dynasties, was reopened to the public last weekend. Originally constructed about 470 years ago, during the reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, the temple was used by emperors of both the Ming and Qing to offer sacrifices to their ancestors. It underwent two periods of renovation in the Qing Dynasty, during the reigns of emperors Yongzheng and Qianlong. From 1929 until early 2000, it was part of Beijing No. 159 Middle School. The temple"s Jingdechongsheng Hall contains stone tablets memorializing 188 Chinese emperors. The jinzhuan bricks used to pave the floor, the same as those used in the Forbidden City, are finely textured and golden-yellow in color. According to Xi Wei, an official from the Xicheng District government present at the reopening of the temple, jinzhuan bricks were made in Yuyao, Suzhou, specially for imperial use. The renovation was done strictly according to that carried our at the orders of Emperor Qianlong, and only those sections of the temple too damaged to repair have been replaced.

Communication is the sending of information or news from one person to another. If human beings could not communicate with one another, each person would have to learn everything for himself. Although animals as well as men can communicate, so far as we know, they can express only the simple emotions like pain, joy, fear, hunger, anger and love. Some animals have a more advanced form of language using sounds, and others use a wide range of sounds and face movements, but we still have much to learn about these animal languages. Speech is the most important means of communication between people. But it is not the only one. Nor is it the oldest. We use facial expressions, gestures and hand movements to express our feelings and to send signals to other people. Animals use this "body language" a great deal. The sign language used by deaf people is an example of communication without speech,while blind people communicate largely through touch and hearing.

Once the 12 Girls Band became popular, similar groups predictably starting popping up. Musicat and Beautiful Youth 18 were formed last year. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced plans to return people to the moon by 2018. "And this time", according to a NASA press release, "we"re going to stay". NASA wants to make a new spaceship for the missions using parts from the Apollo program, which first took people to the moon in 1969, and the space shuttle. NASA says the new Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) will be "affordable, reliable, and sage". The CEV will be able to hold four astronauts. The plan is to have the CEV dock(对接) in space with the lunar lander—the vehicle astronauts will use to land on the moon—which will be launched separately into space. The CEV will then travel to the moon and all four astronauts will walk on the moon. The first moon missions are expected to last up to seven days. Exploration and construction of a moon base will be the astronauts" top priorities(最优先考虑的事). NASA hopes to have a minimum of two moon missions a year starting in 2018. This will allow for quick moon base construction, constant scientific study, and training for future missions to Mars.

A dictionary translation is not the same as an idiomatic interpretation, and seldom will the dictionary translation meet the needs. A national producer of soft drinks had the company"s brand name impressed in Chinese characters which were phonetically(按照发音地, 语音学上) accurate. It was discovered later, however, that the translation"s literal meaning was "female horse fattened with wax", hardly the image the company sought to describe.
