For each question or statement there are 4 chokes marked A), B), C) or D). You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.{{/I}} At one time or another we have all stopped to think about the weather. Some days the weather is good. Some days the weather is bad. Still, there are days when the weather seems to change from hour to hour. A day that starts out fine might not stay that way. Sometimes a day that seems bad turns out better than you thought it would. There are ways of understanding the weather. One way is to study the clouds. No two clouds are ever alike. But it is still possible to group clouds and to give them names. We can recognize the different kinds of clouds and watch them for signs of changing weather. As a rote, the higher the clouds, the better the weather. And the lower the clouds, the worse the weather is likely to be. To predict the weather, there are three things about clouds you should look for: movement, color, and change. Clouds can tell you if storm is on the way. For example, small feathery cirrus clouds (卷云) can become thick and move lower. This means rain is on the way. If there is a sudden, cool breeze (微风) and a dark thunder (雷声) clouds appears, then a storm is about to break out.

单选题As a traffic policeman, I have often heard all kinds of excuses told by drivers whose driving speed is too fast. On a cold winter evening, I was carrying out my work in a car when a completely new Blue Bird passed by me at an astonishing speed. I managed to catch up with it, and then got in the way. A young man got out of this car, saying that someone in his car was seriously ill and that he was taking the patient to the hospital. I let the man go, but decided to follow the driver to the hospital, for I had been cheated by some other drivers quite a few times. At the parking lot (停车场) in front of the hospital, I was really feeling foolish about not trusting the driver when the young man took great trouble to get an elderly lady off his car. I was about to give the young man a hand when I overheard the struggling woman say in an angry voice, "Leave me alone. You told the policeman someone was sick, so you should be the patient."

单选题Speech-the act of uttering sounds to convey(传达) meaning--is a kind of human action. Like any other constantly repeated action, speaking has to be learned, but once it is learned, it becomes a generally unconscious and apparently automatic process. As far as we can determine, human beings don"t need to be forced to speak. Most babies seem to possess a sort of instinctive drive to produce speech like noises. How to speak and what to say are another matter altogether. These actions are learned from the particular society into which the baby was born; so that, like all conduct that is learned from a society--from the people around us--speech is a patterned activity. The sounds that a child can make are more varied and numerous than the sounds that any particular language utilizes. However, a child born into a society with a pattern of language is encouraged to make a small selection of sounds and to make these few sounds over and over again until it is natural for him to make these sounds and no others.
