For each question or statement there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.{{/I}} While it is true that Americans believe climbing the educational ladder leads to success, they are less certain that intellectual achievement is the only important factor leading to success. A competitive personality is seen as important to success, especially in men. The development of social and political skills is also considered to be very important. To help Americans develop these other important skills, school. This is especially true of number of extracurricular (课程外) activities to daily life at school. This is especially true of high schools and colleges and extends down into elementary schools as well. Athletics, frequently called "competitive sports," are perhaps the most important of these activities. Football, basketball, and baseball teams are seen as very important in teaching students, particularly boys, the "winning spirit." At times, athletic teams seem to become more important to some students and their parents than the academic programs offered by the schools.

单选题To be a good teacher, you need some of the gifts of a good actor: you must be able to hold the attention of your audience; you must be a clever speaker, with good, strong, pleasing voice which is fully under your control; and you must be able to act what you are teaching, in order to make its meaning clear. The fact that a good teacher has some of the gifts of an actor doesn't mean that he will indeed be able to act well on the stage, for there are very important differences between the teacher's work and actor's. The actor has to speak words which he has learnt by heart; he has to repeat exactly the same words each time he plays a certain part, even his movements and the ways in which he uses his voice are usually fixed beforehand. What he has to do is to make all these carefully learnt words and actions seem natural on the stage. A good teacher works in quite a different way. His audience takes an active part in his play; they ask and answer questions, they obey orders, and if they don't understand something, they say no. The teacher therefore has to suit his act to the needs of the audience, which is his class. He cannot learn his part by heart, but must invent it as he goes along.

单选题The goal in today and future workplace will be employability (就业能力) security, not employment security. You will need a bundle of skills that you can sell in the job market. Management consultants recommend you forget the old generalists. You need special skills and capabilities, and you will be expected to be a generalist as well as an expert. Learn every thing you can in all areas. Flexibility will be crucial, whether in the job or switching to learn the skills you need. The 1990s has created the greatest job market in the history of U. S. There are new rules for the job market now. 1. Take responsibility for building your career. You can't count on employers for the train ing, employment opportunities or the mentor you need to advance. You need to be sure you're at your peak of capabilities, for jobs of today and tomorrow. 2. Commitment, you have to continue to develop. The job market is more competitive, you need to improve your occupational skills all the time. 3. Your resume must be a "living document". You need to keep it up-to date all the time, document your new skills in experiences on an on-going basis, so your resume is always current and complete. 4. Type of information you add. Employers are looking for people who are at the cutting edge in their profession, craft or trade. They are looking for highly skilled employees, and constantly updating and expanding their qualifications. Another change will be working for an employer and customer half-way around the world, seeing them on your video screen, but never in person. Will you be able to adjust to the isolation of working from your home? Or where meetings and conferences are held via personal computers? Are you willing to be a student throughout your entire professional life, learning new ways to do things and then learn the new ways replacing. what you have learned?
