单选题Hypnotism (催眠)is now entering an era of wider acceptance and use. An event which occurred recently in a state mental hospital proves this. A doctor examined a young woman in her late twenties. A few months earlier she had fallen from a chair. It looked like she had damaged her spine(脊柱), causing paralysis, but X-rays showed no damage to her back. Doctors did not feel that her fall had been serious. They felt that her paralysis was purely mental. At last the doctors reasoned that hypnotism might help her. A hypnotist was called, and soon he put her into a trance (睡眠状态). He told her she could walk across the room with a pair of canes near her bed. Although she was weak from her months in bed, she was able to get across the room. Then the hypnotist told her she could walk with the aid of two nurses. Again she did as he said. Within three weeks she was out of the hospital, her paralysis cured.

单选题Directions:After reading the following passage, you will find five questions or unfinshedstatements numbered from 36 to 40.For each question or statement there are four choicesmarkted A,B,C and D.You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter onthe Answer Sheet with a single line through the center. How often one hears children wishing they had grown up,and old people wishing they were young again. Each age has its pleasures and its pains, and the happiest person is the one who enjoys what each age gives him without wasting his time in useless regrets. Youth is a time when there are few tasks to make life difficult. If a child has good parents,he is fed, looked after and loved what ever he may do.It is impossible that he will ever again in his life be given so much with out having to do anything in return. In addition, life is always presenting new things to the child—things that have lost their interest for older people because they are too well-known.But a child has his pains:he is not so free to do what he wishes to do;he is continually being told not to do things,or being punished for what he has done wrong. When the young man starts to earn his own living,he can no longer expect others to pay forhis food, his clothes, and his room, but has to work if he wants to live comfortably. If he spends most of his time playing about in the way that he used tO as a child,he will go hungry. And ifhe breaks the laws of society as he used to break the laws of his parents,he may go to prison. If,however,he works hard, keeps out of trouble and has good health,he can have the great happiness of building up for himself his own position in society.

单选题If you think you have a puncture (漏气), first check the valve (阀门) to make sure air is not leaking from it, by putting spit on the end of it. If the valve is not the source of the leak, remove the wheel from the bicycle and put the tyre off. Be careful not to pinch the inner tube. Remove the inner tube and pump some air into it. Then hold it in a bowl of water until you see bubbles coming from it. Or, hold the tube to your ear and listen for air escaping. Dry the tube. Choose a patch which is big enough to cover the hole and the surrounding area. Apply glue to the tube before sticking the patch down. Before you put the tube back in the tyre, run your fingers over both the inside and outside of the tyre to make sure that whatever caused the puncture is not still there. To replace the tube, put the valve part way through the hole in the rim(轮圈), pump a little air in, and then feed it carefully under the tyre. Push the tyre over the rim and back into position. Do not use tyre levers for doing this. Pump up the tyre fully and replace the wheel on the bicycle. Make sure the wheel is positioned in the center of the frame.
